  • I have just been sorting through my underwear drawer. My current bras' and knickers do not fill me with any joy whatsoever. Does that mean i should bin them all and go underwearless. Or treat myself to some new ones that will bring me joy. :rotfl:

:) You've got a weightloss tally in your sigline, so could you need new undies for your slimmer self, and choose joyful ones at the same time? Wouldn't recommend going without in this climate, there are some nasty drafts about, could do yourself a mischief.

Another pair of undercrackers is on its way to meet its maker at Chez GQ, got more holey than righteous. Fortunately, I have more.

Brief sweep of the refrigerator revealed two large slightly suspect zucchini which did not fill me with joy when I held them in my hand. But the zucchini bread about to come out of the oven surely will. Three loaves, one for now and two for the freezer.
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

:p Actually, thinking if I'm not going to be a gift-aider in future, I'd better get the ali baba basket out of here and down to the chazzer asap. Have just decanted its contents into a large bin bag size clear plastic bag and it can now be donated. May do that tomorrow after w*rk.

One more square foot of floor-space liberated. Onwards!

I have had a massive clearout of youngest son's bedroom. He left for university 4 and a half years ago with a promise that he would clear his stuff when he graduated. Well that was 18 months ago and it is all still here so it is all piled up in boxes so when he next comes home he can sort it out, throw it out or take it away with him. I did the same with his sister six months ago. I have let her leave some stuff in her old wardrobe but a whole room was just too much.

:) Good for you, mumps. It's time to take ownership of all our belongings, even the ones stored at relatives' homes.

Getting ready for work ('scuse my Klatchian) and have washed up two tall skinny jars which have been living on my counter, for donation later today. Also finished a library book which I will return after work.

Feeling pretty good about what I am letting go, it's all useful stuff, and attractive, and should bring joy in someone else's life. The two tall jars came, respectively, from a bootsale and a chazzer, so haven't wasted much money and can let them go with a clear conscience.

I am also finding it easy to let go of things now. I had a couple of dinner plates that were really quite expensive when we bought them years ago. They are surplus to requirements and were in fact whispers unused and still in their wrappers.... I did put an advert up at work for any takers but none came forward so they went to CS last week. :)

As many Kondo-ites have said, we value the space* so much that letting go is not that hard. I find it even easier if the items are actually going to spark joy for someone else, just as GQ said above.

*well, it's not even the space per se, more the fact that there is room to store or display the items that bring joy, or are necessary in our lives. In turn that takes away so much of the daily hassle of
trying to find things, having to move stuff to do anything and generally wasting our enrgy on needless tasks when we could be enjoying doing something else!! :j

    Morning all.
Richard shops :rotfl:I remember it well too pretty for me as I was a bit of a punk rebel :) My Mum was always in there buying 'pretty' things ;)

Well yesterday was a nightmare of the biggest order :( Radiator gone now but the floor had to come up and all split and spintered so had to keep taking more out to get to a board that had a even edge  7 boards have had to be replaced all the skirting boards had to come off to get the new ones back in. He came a 9am to do a simple job :rotfl: and left at 6.45pm :o

The dog decided that he would revert to puppyhood and stole everything and chewed it up  Wirewool  plastic pipes,a hammer  and finally the plumbers hat:o Then he got hold of a spintered floor board and got a spinter stuck in his nose !

He was then banished into the car for 4 hours as I was so pi**ed off with the whole thing.

But the + side was the charity was thrilled with the things I donated and kept saying 'and that? I just said take everything but leave my dining room table and chairs please. I gift aided so they will let me know what it raised :)

So yes GQ not a lot left now 2 x new sofas ;) narrow tall chest of drawers which the TV is now on and looks really good. a narrow chest and a small table and thats it. Oh and the dogs bed:mad:
Displayed are only the Hippo :) and the cabbage :) (if you remember that one.

I am loving it :) Not loving the mess with everything needing painting and filling after the problems yesterday. But at least its done ;)

    Have a lovely day all

:( Just had a glance at the budget and I think from next month I will be an ex-tax payer as earn under £11k. Don't pay very much tax now, but being a tax payer does mean I can gift aid stuff, which I will have to recind if April's payslip reveals I'm not paying income tax.

    (

I wonder ho much the charities will be affected by this?

Richard Shops - I had a dress from there and also a coat I remember - dont know why as I really hated them both but at the time I think I wanted to fall in with the crowd...didnt last long! I do have a wooden coat hanger with Richard Shops embossed on it. Dont know how I have it in my possession but it has been with me all my adult life, and is my favourite coat hanger......yes I have favourite coat hangers...dont you ??? All of my coat hangers are wooden (with the exception of a few IKE* plastic ones that the DDs had when they were little) and most of them could tell a story..............that sounds just sooooo weird. Sorry !:rotfl:

Last week my mum did some clothesfitting with dd7y. It was stuff from the stock in the attic, and about half did not fit/was too ugly/stained. I like that result. dirty/stained clothes had buttons removed and are now in ragbag. The good items that dd did not like, I held in front of dd4y and asked her if she could ever see herself wearing those. If she said 'no' the clothes went into the chazzer/'for Africa' box straight away. We have so many items of clothing stored, that we can actually afford to do it this way.

I have calculated that we have saved about GBP 2,000 so far by using gifted clothes. We do tend to buy new shoes, as the shoes we are gifted are used and last about a week when my dds wear them. My dds do wear the gifted shoes, because I want the shoes to be completely finished before I throw them away (anyone else feel the same way?). The feeling of using something up completely, to get all the life out of it, and only then discarding it, is so rewarding!
