Ah, Mrs M-P - that brought it all back! I used to love Richard Shops! Very soft-focus shots 'hey there, pretty thing, make the world a prettier place .... ' I don't think the ads would work today but back in the 70s/80s my feminist tendencies hadn't been hardened by real life.

Mavvy your house must surely be empty by now - apart from the lovely sofas of course. You really are a shining example of this process.

Milasavesmoney - be brave and try a category, it may seem overwhelming but it really works better than room by room. You can break categories down eg instead of 'stationery' you could just do 'pencils' but if you don't have everything together the storage solutions don't present themselves and you don't see how much Stuff you really have.

Mrs MP - did a similar thing with a jumper yesterday. had put it in the drawer as part of this round of 333, even then thinking "I suppose I could include this"; put it on yesterday and looked in the mirror.....

It's now in the chazzer bag. I have hated that jumper for years - although it is a nice jumper, does that make sense?
I wanna be in the room where it happens

We made a similar mistake Greyqueen with that bright green in the hall. lIved with it about a year but it was awful.. We now have a nice soft grey which brings me joy.

Just had bowl of HM beef broth from freezer stash - very tasty. Finished up roast beef from weekend with couple of slices of bread. Beef joint was YS from mr m and was very nice as well. Going away for a month so trying to use up freezer contents. Also KMd significant amounts for London trip with GS6 and Majorca with GD8 in August.

Several large bags to drop off at CS on my way to meeting this pm if I can park.

Been away to London for a week's holiday and must mention that after Km ing all my clothes it is so easy to pack and then unpack when you get home. Pity I can't say the same for my OH.
GQueen I have the same problem with alibaba baskets. I got two beautiful baskets for Christmas and they just don't fit anywhere but can't throw them out as they were a gift from DIL2.
Love the talk about paint colours. Over 40 years ago I visited someone whose whole house was painted white and I loved it. Now I too have white walls and plain oatmeal coloured carpet in bedrooms and wooden floors everywhere else. I have loads of paintings and the walls display them well. I add colour with curtains and cushions etc.
ps home to see my snowdrops flowering but in London the daffodils were flowering. :rotfl:

Glad you like it, if you do decide to go ahead with it I can find out who my daughter got hers from, I know she had problems with one supplier and switched to another one which was cheaper and better service.

I am actually quite jealous as I had my kitchen done about six months before she had her done and I wish I had known about it. Being able to fit it easily is a money saver as I can't tile and this is easy to do yourself.

Mumps - It is lovely...not sure when our kitchen will get done - am saving up for some many things that need to be done to our house. However, I will ask for your help when the time comes.

So, am wearing a top today, which i know will be going to the CS after it has been laundered - looking a bit tight, also thinking about it - there is another top that is a bit tight on me now too - so that will be going into the CS bag too. Next CS drop will be this Friday.

Little and often to the CS is my motto at the moment.

Hope everyone has a good afternoon.

Oh Polly, I wish I could do it all at once, but I know myself and I know it would never get done. I am possibly the world's most skilled procrastinator.
I will say all the cloths are now done for myself and OH, except my socks and underwear drawers. Got the shorts drawer finished this a.m. and only the one drawer of dreaded sentimental will be left to do. Then that room will be finished.
Such a major accomplishment for me and I am thrilled!! That room + walk-in-closet have not had a through cleaning out in years and years. We took over 30 sacks to our charity shop.
I am going to the office next, so paper is coming up. I just realized I am sort of doing the whole enchilada at once method that you (and Marie) are advising. That snuck up on me.
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

GreyQueen, sorry if mentioned earlier in thread and I've missed it, but......will you be spending Easter at the parents house? Absolutely love reading about your adventures there, your Mum sounds delightful.
:) I most certainly will be at theirs at Easter. Will have to come back on the evening on the Monday (have to use public transport, no car) but will see what I can fit in around visiting Nan en famille and eating the fatted calf (Liddly XXL beef joint already stashed in her freezer). And she's an absolute sweetie.

Discussing with Mum, we've decided on sorting out the area at the foot of her bed. In case this sounds a bit un-ambitious for a weekend's kondo-ing, I should explain that it's very densely cluttered, has been maturing nicely for some years, and there is fatigue in the decision-making process.

My tactic, to minimise tiredness for Mum, will be to have everything out, vac behind and under, clean window and the wall, wash curtains and rehang others from the loft stash and then invite her up to sit on a stool and arbitrate on destination of items whilst I do the physical work.

It's a toughie but there is probably about 4 times the amount of Stuff in their house than would fit comfortably, and as she's getting unsteady on her feet due to Parkinson's, I am very concerned about her falling over all the Stuff and want to work towards a solution.

My own health isn't brill and it may be that the above-mentioned is all we can do. If it isn't, I can move a few feet across and excavate the doorway into her Bedroom Cupboard of Doom (hereafter BCofD for short).

The BCofD is deep, (although not rivalling the wonders of mavvy's dad's Narnia cupboards) and contains a lot of things which haven't seen the light of day since Major was prime minister. There will almost certainly be spiders but hopefully no dead birds.;)

mavvy, I was looking at the list of the things you were hiffing out of an already kondo'd home and wondering if it'd just be you and hubs with a lovely sofa each and a lot of empty space (and nothing wrong with that, I reckon).:rotfl:

I have got rid of a jumper which I dragged out of deep storage last Friday, put on and discovered no longer fits. Wasn't a case of dieting into it, the arms were several inches too short. Must have had a laundry accident at some time. Off into the chazzer bag it went.

Other than that, it's all baby steps. I am continuing to kondo my wobbly bits, have misplaced about 4 lb in 14 days, only need to lose another 60 lb and I'll be about right.:p

Yeah, the ali baba basket was on the top of a pile of stuff at the tip, I asked one of the workers if I could have it and pedalled off with it. Quick wash in the shower and I'm keeping yarn in it. I love baskets but have come to the conclusion that square or rectangular ones are a lot easier to use in this tiny flat. Once I've knitted up enough of the yarn, I shall chazzer it. Fortunately, I won't have to account to anyone else for it's whereabouts, it's so awkward when its a gift and you don't want to offend.

  • Have come across some old bed linen that was left in conservatory (doom space, not nice) and found mouse droppings on it. Have shaken out and put on line, intend to wash on high temp and bag up as recycling. Do you think this is OK?

Lovely week so far the weather has me all a cleaning!
Monday clean through then changed cushions and curtains to something lighter in lounge and conservatory. Today been out in garden for a couple of hours, green bin is full and although it doesn't look much different I know what has been done !,:D
Long may the sun shine ;)

:) If it's not been chewed on, nor is is stained once it comes out of the wash, why not just donate it as bedlinen? A specialist medical grade laundry reckons just about nothing, bug wise, can survive washing at 72 farenheit. HTH.

:( Just had a glance at the budget and I think from next month I will be an ex-tax payer as earn under £11k. Don't pay very much tax now, but being a tax payer does mean I can gift aid stuff, which I will have to recind if April's payslip reveals I'm not paying income tax.

Mind you, I already pay twice the amount of NI than IT and the NI take will go up next month, so will prolly be no better off (changes to local government pension scheme where you were opted out of SSP equivalent and won't be any more).

Welcome to the future where you pay more and get less.:(
