Lovely cheery news about your state of health at the moment, Emz. You sound a lot more upbeat about life in general. Here's to you:beer:
I hope you managed to see some of the tennis 'live' yesterday. Sadly, I couldn't raise much enthusiasm for the match somehow, although I did watch it all.
I'm not a big Murray fan (sorry, Emz and beanielou to name but 2 on here) and I really don't like Djokovic. I'm not sure of the reasons why in both cases as they are supremely talented players and I marvel at their athleticism and skill.
It would have been lovely for a Brit to win it at last so I was rooting for Andy more than Djokovic. I just felt it was a foregone conclusion after the first set, Andy just didn't seem to want it enough. Maybe that's just me though.
I'm sure, given his ability, Andy will be back in the final many times though, his clay-court play having improved so much recently. It took Djokovic so many attempts before he eventually won after all so Andy shouldn't feel too down about missing out at his first attempt.
Wimbledon awaits, he is brilliant there:j0 -
Thanks everyone
I was very proud of Andy yesterday. Such a shame that it's always Djokovic he's got to overcome to win these major tournaments. Djokovic had a much easier run to the final than Murray did, which I don't think helped. Djokovic missed all of the better players on his side of the draw, whereas Murray had difficult matches.
I know some people find it hard to warm to Murray. I think he's quite a private person and is therefore probably quite shy. He is such a good player though and I think he deserves so much more than he has won. Djokovic did get a bit arrogant towards the end, but I prefer him 100% to Federer - he is so far up his own backside I'm surprised he can play tennis

With everything taken into account I'm not so sure Andy had a harder journey to the final overall really, and 2 unseeded players taking him to 5 sets at the beginning wouldn't have helped him. Gasquet was seeded 9 and his best opponent was Wawrinka @ 3. Djokovic had the 7th seed (Berdych who should have been a tough opponent after seeing off Ferrer in a quick straight sets match). Apart from the opponent difficulty, which I admit was slightly easier for Djokovic, Andy had time to recuperate between most matches. Djokovic had to play his last 3 matches before the final on consecutive days (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) and even the commentators were wondering if he had 'enough left in the tank' to finish the job.
As for not warming to Andy, it's not because he is private and quite shy. Compared with Djokovic and the other 'show offs' I like those qualities in him:T. It's his antics sometimes on court I don't like, his anger and cursing when things don't go his way. He was going on yesterday about the overhead cameras. I agree they might have annoyed him but the situation was the same for both players. The camera can easily pick up his swearing when things don't go his way (although we don't always hear it;)) but it's pretty obvious what he's saying. Thankfully, he seems to berate his team less these days. I think Amelie had a good influence on him in that respect.
I shall be rooting for him at Wimbledon as I'd love him to win that one:T0 -
Spoke too soon. I'm off sick again
Later on Monday I felt ill. Had problems breathing and my chest was really tight. Managed to get it under control before I went to bed. Felt a bit better on the Tuesday whilst I was resting in the morning, but started to feel bad again when I was getting ready for work. Felt that it was too late to call in sick, so dragged myself in.
Called the doctor yesterday and she has signed me off for the rest of the week. I went for some blood tests today, am seeing her again on Monday and she will sign me off again if necessary. She's concerned that I've lost a stone in weight.
Sick of it all TBH. Just want to be able to go into work and not feel like utter rubbish!!

I'm so sorry to hear that you are ill again. I can understand that you're absolutely fed up with it. Sending all possible good wishes for a speedy solution.
Maybe your GP might have a better idea of what to do once your blood test results are back. A stone is a lot to lose, especially as I know you were very slim to start with.0 -
Blimey I dont think that you can afford to loose a stone
I on the other hand :rotfl:

Sorry your health has taken a downturn
I agree 100% with your assessment of Murray, Djokovic and Federer! And I'll take Andy's swearing at himself over other players' habits of smashing their racquets (sometimes endangering the ball kids and line judges) anyday.

If Andy swore just at himself it would be acceptable but he yells it out so that everyone can hear. He's smashed a few racquets himself in the past too, although thankfully he's grown out of it.
I know Federer isn't universally appreciated on this thread (although he must be doing something right or he wouldn't have won all those polls for sportsmanship etc.). With all his achievements over so many years he might be excused for being a bit chuffed with himself;). And most of it (except very early in his career) done without screaming obscenities or racquet-smashing.0 -

I think (or rather hope) Federer will retire at the end of the season. He's holding out for the Olympics as that's the only thing he hasn't won (gold medal in the singles) and he can't say he's got the golden slam until he has won it. He'll never win another grand slam.
Glad to see that Murray has teamed up with Lendl again :j
