Guests altering things in home

Anyone else have probs when guests come into their home? Love having them...but they alter stuff without so much as an ask. For instance, we have vertical blinds (I know, I know...but we like them) and if they go to look out of the window - they pull them apart to get a better view, then the blinds never sit equally spaced afterwards. My laptop didn't do well when it was upgraded to Windows 10, so a computer whizz friend restored it to it's former glory, but whilst we've been away on holiday, sons girlfriend thought she was being helpful and put it back on again, now all sorts of things have gone wrong and I can't print off it at all. Oh how I wish folk would leave stuff alone......! I'd never dream of touching other peoples stuff without an invitation or an ask, would you?

I'd go mental if anyone upgraded my laptop without asking, you don't mess with things like that which don't belong to you and I thnk she was totally out of order.
The blinds probably wouldn't bother me, it takes 2 seconds to put them back in place.

No I wouldn't but some things I say no I wouldn't you might see as touching. They don't know not to touch the blinds. I might not either. You've got to say why you don't want the blinds touched.Anyone else have probs when guests come into their home? Love having them...but they alter stuff without so much as an ask. The computer though completely different matter.
Never ever give anyone Administrator access to your computer. Friends, family whatever I don't care....Guest/User level access only.
To make it look like you are not giving them the special Guest access you could set your account up as a User level account without Admin privileges and when you need Admin access to install things log out of your User account and re log in as Admin. It's actually safer as many viruses require you to have Admin level access to propagate.
Windows 10 is a big step up that would annoy me no end and they would never be invited back to my house ever again.:footie:

She shouldn't have messed with your laptop, but I wouldn't get too angry it sounds well intentioned.
The blinds thing is a bit daft to be honest.0 -
I know not to touch anything belonging to somebody else. I know how annoying it would be as they've got it "just perfect" ...and it's none of my business if I think their life could be enhanced by moving something, or changing something around.
It's their home. The job of a guest is to sit politely in the corner, with their hands in their lap and not touch anything. Nobody likes their choices to be fiddled with, their items moved, without a by-your-leave, just because some random kn0b decided it'd be "... better if you ...."
You need to stop inviting people around.0 -
I wouldn't be happy about someone messing with my laptop/tablet etc, even if it was done with good intention, they shouldn't have done it without asking you first.
But, I wouldn't get worked up about someone moving my blinds. How else are they meant to look out of the window without moving them slightly? They're easily put back in place.
When we were away on holiday once, the MIL took it upon herself to move things around in our bedroom. What she was doing in there in the first place I do not know, and I wasn't happy :mad:0 -
Who in their right mind would start installing or uninstalling something on someone else's laptop without asking the owner first?
But I do think you're getting a bit anal about the blinds, lol. I would want to take a peek through them as well. I like having daylight in the room

My ex MIL used to change everything in the kitchen as I'm left handed and there fore everything was wrong for her, she's right handed. I drove me up the wall!Chin up, Titus out.0

A few years ago My Aunt had a fire at Her house and needed temp accommodation and being the dutiful nephew Offered to put her, Her daughter and Grandson up " For a while" , I'd come home and find all the cupboards re-organised, Coffee put on the Top Shelf as they didn't drink it, The Gorganzola thrown out ( as It looked mouldy), final straw came when I discovered that My nephew had picked the lock on My bedroom door and had been borrowing clothes.0

My brother used to change all the radio stations around the house when he came to stay. This was years ago before DAB and pre-set and it used to drive me mad. I'm a talk radio person and hated in when I turned on and pop music blared out. Fortunately, these days he sits on the sofa with his tablet and amuses himself that way.
We also have very different habits for meal times and tv watching but it's a case of my house, my rules. I know when he stays with me he's desperate to eat early evening (he used to use his children as an excuse) and then watch carp telly. Here he eats later and has to sit and chat after meal. When I stay with him I suffer.;)
I have silly bugbears too (like the vertical blinds) in that I hate it when people take their shoes off and leave them in the hall. To me it shouts more concern for carpets than people but it's a habit for many visitors so I live with it.
I'd never even think of using someone else's laptop unless they specifically asked me to look at something let alone doing an upgrade.0 -

Or tell the guests not to touch anything, which wouldn't make them feel welcome.
But the computer is another matter - Surely people don't need to be told 'don't upgrade my computer to Windows 10!'Early retired - 18th December 2014
