Does anyone have experience of magnifying lamps please?

Finally decided on Cath Kidston colouring books for my mum for Christmas and then yesterday she told me that she's having trouble seeing her jigsaw puzzles because her close up glasses aren't doing anything. She actually has cataracts although not bad enough to have surgery at the moment so now I'm thinking she won't be able to use the books. However, then I thought maybe for her birthday at the end of this month I could get her one of those magnifying craft lamps. Has anyone used one? I've no idea which style is best and don't really want to spend more than about twenty to thirty pounds although could go halves with my sister which would give us about sixty pounds if needed. Any help or advice appreciated.

Peppa i bought myself a few years ago a magnifying lamp as I struggled doing my jewellery making. I got mine in Hobbycraft and its still going strong now and is still on the same lightbulb. Hobbycraft still sell it its priced at £15.00 its on offer at the moment. http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/daylight-company-naturalight-table-magnifying-lamp/573114-1000?glCountry=GB&gclid=Cj0KEQjwhvbABRDOp4rahNjh-tMBEiQA0QgTGt_cVtJLR_EjmJV5HWKyTUhppcwNK6xrb1oj4J0_XyUaAnSs8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds

Morning everyone. Wasn't on yesterday because I was a bit busy graduating!

The Open University put on a lovely ceremony. My quick walk across the stage is quite a blur now but I won't forget the joy from everyone in the theatre. My hands were bright red from clapping for over an hour!

I bought the graduation t-shirt with everyone's names on. Never had my name on a t-shirt before lol. :rotfl: In the little cardboard tube they give you on stage (degree certificates come in the post beforehand) there was a little golden OU pin. Waiting on my graduation jewellery (I just really wanted a ring lol) to come in the post. Hopefully soon.

Traffic back from Manchester was god awful. But we managed to still get out for a celebratory italian meal. :T Really tired today. But it was worth it.

Still feel at a loss without studying though (it was 6 years of my life!). I don't feel productive, just a waste of space cause I'm not well enough to work. :( So I'm now considering a Masters of some sort or some other form of distance studying. Glutton for punishment! :rotfl:

Sorry this is so long. Just wanted to share with you all. :D

Thanks TREASUREQUEEN- that sounds ideal and the price is brilliant!

Huge congratulations CLUMSY, so glad you had a day to remember. I deferred my exams for three months as was in hospital so graduated the year after every one I studied with. I use the term studied very loosely here, I'd lost interest at the end of year two so def didn't deserve anything more than the 2.2 I got. Well done you and good luck if you do decide to go on to do your masters.

Clumsy congratulations :T You should feel very proud of yourself, so what if you can't work you didn't let your health win and that's an achievement in itself.

Congratulations. :T sounds like a great day too x

I did try and post last night but my Internet was slow and it would refresh and send. So I gave up. Can't remember what I was posting about.

Ive ordered DD and myself Christmad jumpers and myself a Peanuts christmas tshirt from Asda. Eldest DD still has her Christmas jumper from last year. And DS won't wear anything I buy him.

This morning was freezing. Was considering taking the kids to watch a big fireworks display, but it's to be even colder tonight. I do like getting all wrapped up. But we are up at 6:30am tomorrow for a dance comp.

  • Glad you had a good day Clumsy, I enjoyed my graduation day, like you said, sore hands clapping.

Went for my test drive, came home poorer! My brother said he would buy my car if I was offered a poor trade in. Trade in was a slight exaggeration for what I was offered, 7 year old Astra with 46k on the clock, there is a scratch on near side, but other than that, perfect. Parkers trade in value,£1,750, private sale £2,250, I was offered the outstanding amount of £200! Needless to say, I have a happy brother, just need to sort out getting the cash for it now.

Going to spend as much time as possible tomorrow getting up to date with what I have, need to do. Can then concentrate on making stuff for our Christmas fundraiser.

I really really want a seven foot Christmas tree. I don't know why but for some reason I really want a big tree this year. The one I've seen is very realistic and is £195 in John Lewis. It's such a lot of money but then if I bought a real tree as we sometimes do it would cost about £50 so in four years it would have paid for itself. Am I just trying to put a good light on it? I really want one!

I wore my Christmas sweatshirt for the first time today and two people commented on it, one of whom said she was a Christmas nut so she was going to get her Christmas jumper out too. The other one loved it but wondered if it was too early - soon put her straight on that one lol.

  • Evening everyone, i had my first christmas starbucks drink today while collecting my food shop, an eggnog latte it was lovely, DD1 treated me to it as my sister had upset me again!!!! I had posted happy birthday to my neice on FB and my sister replied really rudely well she hasnt got her card off of you?????? I was so angry but most of all upset i felt a bit humiliated on FB as well, i cant help it if the post hasnt got there today, everyone knows you cant rely on it these days i posted it in good time and i have never been late before, and if she realised how much i struggle to get the money together in the first place. I think this will end up me knocking another family member out of my life that is the third time this year she has jumped down my throat for no reason and i havent got the energy to just have a row or a nasty fallout, Its just negativity i could do without. Sorry i feel better now i have got it off of my chest :D I have just finished my third christmas book so need to choose another one quick.
