Ha ha, me too. We've always had nans in our family.
Is that just for your daughter/s children or for your son/s too?
What do the grandchildren call their other grand parents?
In our family the maternal grand mother is "nan" or "nana" and the paternal grand mother is "gran" or "granny". Step grand parents are "nan / nana" and their first name or "gran / granny" and their first name, depending on whether they are on the mother or the father's side.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...

Hi everyone, lovely to be back home now after my stint dogsitting. I went to the car boot this morning and picked up a few bits for Xmas. I bought a Lego Star Wars sticker book and a reading book for dgs aged 6 that cost 1.50. I also bought a sealed pack of 4 rolls Xmas wrapping paper, 8 bows and 2 rolls of curling ribbon for £1.
I was in a rush when leaving for dogsitting and forgot to take my knitting with me so tonight's been great.
Mrsinvisible, I've had a knitting machine as well but it made knitting more like a job than a relaxing hobby so I sold it after about a year. I've also had times when I've had to stop knitting due to shoulder pain but I'm good at the moment so fingers crossed.
Springdreams - I didn't realise I hadn't posted pics properly, I just thought it was the link I was posting. I'm going to try again using your instructions for tiny pic and see if it's easier.
Here goes ......Debt free - Mortgage free - Work free ( in that order)

Hi all, thank you for Wiggle’s birthday wishes, it was really lovely of you! I’ve have had the busiest week! We started the week at Thomas Land for our DN’s birthday, then we had a friends tea party, we visited Woburn Safari Park on Wiggle’s birthday, then had an official birthday party with family on Saturday then we went to Wicksteed Park yesterday to round off celebrations! I have literally not stopped all week and I’ve eaten enough buffet food to last a lifetime! We had buffets at the parties but had leftovers so were taking them for picnics on our days out. Thankfully DH is off today and he says he is going to have Wiggle for most of the day so I can relax a bit at home, I am SO excited about this prospect! But I think Wiggle has had a lovely time which is all that matters. Life is going to get very boring for him again this week! I literally cannot believe he is 2, and I was thinking what this thread in its various forms has seen me through over the years – getting engaged, buying a house, getting married and having a baby! I have lived in 3 different counties since joining this thread! It has been a constant in my life the whole time and I love it. Now Wiggle’s birthday is over I’m going to start concentrating on our impending house move and Christmas so I’m really looking forward to that. DH booked us a Mon-Fri break at Butlins in Skegness next month, I’ve only been to Butlins once when I was 18 and I can hardly remember it! We paid for most of it using our Tesco vouchers so we haven’t spent too much. It’s ‘tots’ week so most things are geared towards little ones which is perfect. Anyway I will stop waffling now. I had lots of pages to catch up on so I’m afraid this is one of my mammoth posts! Please forgive me!
Pinksteps I’m glad DS’s brain scan went well, how sad about the old lady. Hopefully you will get some results from the next scan. I’m sorry you both have to have injections for life but I hope it improves things for you now, and it’s good that your new diet seems to be helping too. Ha ha it made me smile that you are the child with the puppy and your DS is the voice of reason!
MoneyMission you don’t realise how sleep affects everything do you? Your DD sounds similar to Wiggle although he is getting better slowly.
04624181 Yes it was Thomas Land at Drayton Manor we went to and we all loved it! Oh no how awful that your family got food poisoning! I’m glad they are all feeling better now. I hope you are too. I will definitely try to do the craft where possible, I have a pin on Pinterest I wanted to do involving jingle bells so I might get that done this month!
vulpix Who on earth would slash a tent like that?! What’s the point? Some people! At least nothing got stolen. I’m glad your bite is getting better, but I just wanted to check as I was reading about Lyme disease yesterday and they said a tell-tale sign was a red ring around the bite. I’m not trying to scare-monger or be over-dramatic, just wanted to check it was better as you said you’d been feeling out of sorts. X
newthrift yes I looked up pigs in mud cake and managed to just about make a cake to look like it! Oh don’t I’ve had so many times when stuff I’ve bought from EB has been reduced even more – I was due a bargain! It’s hard because you want to get stuff before it sells out but then if it doesn’t it usually ends up even cheaper – do you take the gamble?! Oh I bet you’re quite sad about your brother leaving, but try to make the most of the next couple of weeks and then get planning your trip to Canada!
murie it sounds like you’ve got some lovely presents for your son.
Plumduff thanks so much for the heads up on the dvd players, I will definitely take a look! Those Christmas jumpers are amazing!
mandco I’m glad to hear you finally got a diagnosis, I’m sorry you have it but I do hope things improve for you now. I’m afraid I have never made window stickers. Aw what a cute puppy! Congratulations on the baby girl! Hope SDD is doing ok now, I remember being totally out of it when Wiggle was finally born and just watching DH walking around with him in a blur.
mrsinvisible glad DS’s op went well.
Peppapig glad to hear you got to spend some time with your DGD.
Fiesty I hope you're ok, sending lots of love and hugs. xx
Hello and welcome Manxcottage, Allthatglitters and creative gal! It’s lovely to meet some more Christmas nuts! And welcome back kaya!
Right, I’m off for a rest and no doubt a bit of Christmas planning today!0 -
Just a quickie to say thanks SPRINGDREAMS I'm going to have a go at posting some pics later using your info. We're all nans both paternal and maternal so it's always nanny and grandad. The maternal line tends to be just nan or nanny while the paternal/step line tends to be nanny and then their Christian name. I think it's because my girls saw more of my mum than their dad's mum so she was just nanny and its carried on that way with the littlies. It never really mattered when I was a child as I only had one set of grandparents and they were always nanna and Puppa.
PRINCESSKITTY sounds like you've had a fabulously busy time - I bet Wiggle has loved it. My two little GDSs are off to Thomas Land again tomorrow, they absolutely love it there.
FREE/TREASUREQUEEN it's amazing how many people on here are suffering with fibro but it's so good that you can all share ideas and help each other with tips.
Finishing off some jobs and doing some shopping (the nice kind) today then onto my Jingle Bells challenge yay!
Weather looking good here at the moment so happy Monday everyone! It's the most wonderful timeof the year :0 -
Good Morning,
Well I think PK29 has just about covered everything I would have said so "I second that".PK you are sooo good at expressing yourself in print.I must say this thread has been a constant for me too since long before I joined. The bite is still red and itchy but getting better,I was out of sorts still from the horrible news I had a few weeks ago.It was a suicide.I think the shock of something like that takes time to get over.
I hadn't realised that there was so much to consider in the Nan,Gran stakes. When mine were young my MIL said she wanted to be Nana so my Mum was Grandma which the kids changed to Grom.We also had a Great Nana and my son called my glamorous MIL Nana Nails because of her nail polish and Great Gran became nana no nails.
Must say Murie, that is hilarious that you have to live with a massive box till Christmas.
I am so impressed at those jumpers plumduff,I can knit but not like that!
O gosh some of you have finished your crafts already!!!!!!!!!! I haven't even decided what to do yet.I went to a car boot sale yesterday and bought something I may use along with plants of course.
I spent the afternoon cleaning the kitchen after getting rid of DD1's house rabbit.Yes he is cute and yes he is litter trained but he makes a mess.He has long fur and so hay n sawdust gets stuck to him and drops off as he hops about. He is also not welcome again as he has chewed the new skirting board. So daughter is now moved into her little house in Sheffield and has nearly taken all her stuff from mine and my Mum's.I think we are left with the stuff she doesn't want cluttering up her nice house!
Today we are going to Angelsey to collect DD2.The family she has been away with stay for 6 weeks.
Better get on Mr V finishes work at 10 and will be sat in the car and I haven't even been in the shower yet !
laters Vx
Ps Free what did you think of your sons OH?:0 -
Today I am not boring you with illness as I am sick of talking about it (excuse the pun LOL) today I am going to be catching up on housework and ironing as it is not good weather here. Last night I updated my little Christmas notebook with all my new orders. It is hubbys 44th Birthday on 20th August so am going to have a look for a night at a hotel for us all. We are planning a few days out so may try to tag an overnight stay on one of the days, maybe Drayton Manor. I have lost a bag of mini converse rucksacks that I ordered from soccer sports months ago, only remembered as I checked my birthday list in my planner and saw them listed as birthday gifts. They must be in a safe place LOL
Murie- I am currently feeling the school uniform dent in my pocket, what annoys me is when school give you a list of necessary items you have to buy, you buy them and then your child never uses them!
Peppa-I cannot wait to see your upcycled chair, you are very talented. LOL Dirty windows were spotted in my home over the weekend due to sunny weather and me having more than 20 seconds of time to look at things.
Treasurequeen- You are not alone, people look at me like I am from another planet when I talk about buying Christmas gifts so early. A few family members now realise the benefit and have started to buy a few too. Just saved my step mum £22 buying a toy for her nephews Christmas gift.
Free- Sounds like a lovely day, how did things go then? I second vulpixs question…. What did you think of sons OH? You are a strong Lady and the next few days will soon be behind you xx Good Luck xx
Springdreams- Thanks for the link xx When my DS was born my mum and MIL were called Grandma, my mums mum was nanny and my dad’s mum is called Grandma too.
Plumduff55-Great finds at the car boot sale, I need to arrange to go to one and see if I can get some bargains x
Princesskitty29-Sounds like you have had an amazing week. Wow a day to yourself, enjoy it, and recharge your batteries. We have been to Skegness a few time and my kids absolutely loved it!! The last time we went was 3 years ago. There is so much to do, we never even watched tv. We played games, went swimming, went for walks on the beach (it was October but was still mild weather) the entertainment shows for the young kids in the pavilion is amazing and my DD loved it.
Vulpix- I think rabbits look lovely but I’m with you that they cause too much mess! Safe drive to Angelsey.0 -
Oooops, Murie, apologies for the mistake, and congrats to Mandco.
Free, and 04... yes big foot lives. DGS is referred to as 'pastie paws' , He has just taken possession of his early birthday present, a self propelled petrol lawnmower. He is delighted. It was in the sale, it was what he wanted, it was a bargain. He is currently making a list of all the people who's grass he can offer to cut.
I started today with a bowl of fresh fruit, (good start, healthy and tasty) but l have just eaten a FULL pack of milky b*r chocolate buttons, which were intended for my DGN. and there's a garlic baguette in the oven calling my name!!! no won't power, that's me!
Still haven't decided on the jingle bells item for the craft thing.
Yes, Peppa, l too have dirty windows, sunshine can be so cruel!
0462.... Yes, school uniform, why don't they provide a badge you can stitch on, and remove it to go on the next size instead of providing the garment (available from special store, at an inflated price) already embroidered with the school crest?. I am not against school uniforms, just against the rip off.
l am just waiting for DD to ring, then off for a little window shopping and a coffee-in-a-cafe treat.0 -
I believe someone a few pages back was looking for mug cakes , farmfoods have them in 3 for £1.
Poundworld are selling yankee tarts 2 for £1.

Morning everyone, hope you're all doing well
Really not enjoying this August the weather is rubbish and I want it to be September so the Christmas stock starts coming in,I'm impatient haha!
I've decided to do everyone a little hamper this year especially as I'm finding some people so hard to buy for,I also really enjoy making hampers I usually do one for my boyfriends parents.
I don't really have a lot of people to buy for so that should make things easier and cheaper!0 -
Afternoon everyone, i am destressing atm both drs and hospital appts decluttered. I have Ulcerative Colitis and Diverticular Disease and have to take 6 tablets a day for the rest of my life to try and keep it under control, but when i get flare ups i can ring up and ask for steroids and they will help apparently. I also have to go back every 6 months for check ups and bloods
I am hoping that is the last diagnosis of this year :rotfl:i will rattle when i walk now! I also have B12 deficiency and have to go on a course of folic acid.
VULPIX/04624181 yes we all liked DS OH, he fitted in very nicely with us mad lot, this is his first proper relationship and he seems really happy so i am happyonly time will tell
