  • getting the locks done today. They had 2 keys but only one came back and they denied ever having possession of the second
  • wow they have sent a scary solicitors letter. either I pay up the whole 950 or they will take me to small claims
  • Well the solicitor letter was a bit odd as I was a customer of the law firm.
I emailed him saying I would investigate whether this was a conflict of interest. I said they can take me to court but I am counterclaiming for additional moving expenses, 25 for damage to home contents, 1050 for doors and 50 for new locks. I can evidence the 1050 and 50 payments.
Anyhow lawyer was really apologetic saying he would advise client he cannot act further as I am also a customer of the law firm.
I asked him to send on my email stating my position on this matter.
Wonder what will happen next. probably another law firm will get in touch.
I may suggest we take it on Judge Rinder so I can have my 15 minutes of fame

I dont think OP was serious about JR, came across as a tongue in cheek comment to me

Agreed. You have to mitigate your losses. Surely you must have some
Friends or family, mother of your son, or anybody who could have moved some boxes to get into your freezer.

Driving around the community, with thawing frozen food, is not mitigating losses.

You should give those guys the opportunity to put right their mistake - if that's what it was.

It seems to me as thought the OP had given them ample opportunity to carry out the work with due care and skill. This was clearly beyond them.

Why doubt the OP that it was the carpet laeyrs' fault?

If you don't allow them the opportunity to right it you would likely loose in court.... If they pursued it.
The food issue was avoidable. You could have rung them to come back, phoned a handy man to mitigate your losses, asked a neighbour to help, put certain bits in the fridge to avoid total loss. Appreciate you have a condition but your not inviting them round for tea, just borrowing them for a minute, or they may have sent a son round or something.

So, first of all you chide the OP for not allowing the carpet layers the opportunity to put things right, but then suggest she calls a handyman?

'...from hell' seems to be overstating the case a little. Inconsiderate maybe. Underestimated the score of the job maybe. Sounds like a couple of misunderstandings combined with misplaced optimism around timings but no malice.

Carpet fluff everywhere... Carpet rolls all over the place... They are fitting new carpets, kinda goes with the territory. Frozen food inconvenient, I guess you made a choice for whatever reasons (which were outside fitters control or even knowledge or understanding) where there were mitigations available.

Smashed baubles everywhere? Tree may or may not have been laid on its side? So the rooms had stuff in that the fitters were trying to work around - might be why they didn't manage the whole job as fast as they'd hoped.

Doors - they want to make good.

As visions of hell go, I'll take yours over eternal damnation in fire pits of agony, despair and regret ;-)

Sorry, but it doesn't go with the territory at all. It sounds like cowboy workmanship to me.

If that's who op is then that is fine. Ops of course an individual and making her own decisions about her lifestyle, even if that lifestyle involves isolating herself.... however, the shop cannot be held financially responsible for a situation that could have easily been avoided but wasn't bcause of the lifestyle op has chosen. The food situation was avoidable, the fact it wasn't avoided is down to the fact op through whatever reason opted not to mitigate the situation. You can respect op for having strength to stand by her choice of lifestyle but you cannot expect others to pay for this

What total ignorance about autism and Aspergers. This lifestyle is far from being a choice.
