  • Well got a joiner round today who said he cannot make the doors good and I need new ones. went to shop and demanded my keys back. explained I had already been in twice before Xmas and had to sleep with chain on the door throughout xmas as I get frightened someone has my keys.
The shop owner is a nice guy and said he is going to do his best to get the keys back but no result today.
He says he would prefer his own joiner to look at it as he is concerned the joiner I get may inflate the bill.
not really sure about that but have said I am happy for his joiner to have a look but I am getting an independent quote just in case he tells his joiner to do the minimum he can get away with.
Phone the boss up and tell him that if you don't get your keys back you will get the locks changed and add that on to the bill.

The boss maybe nice but he is sounding more incompetent by the day

  • Still no key but I have been assured it has been passed from the fitter back to the boss who is now on sick leave. Boss is coming to my house Monday with the keys and to inspect the damage as long as he is feeling fit to work.

Sounds like more leeway to make excuses to me .
Is he just a complete waste of space?

  • I have been dealing with the assistant manager this week. What is interesting is last week he assured me he was a trained joiner with 15 years experience but when I spoke to him yesterday he said he had just left a 15 year job as an area manager for a cleaning company. since he is in his late thirties this means he started work aged 4 which is really quite impressive

  • decided to do a bit of research into them. As they are Ltd their accounts are public information. Anyhow when I researched them they are actually a small new company and the company directors are also directors for a longer established and very successful building firm that supply doors.
no wonder the boss does not want my joiner doing the work.
I have been promised my key Monday but they have 2 of my keys but they keep telling me I am wrong and they only have one but I am absolutely certain they have 2

Sometimes it's possible to change the barrel in a lock yourself quite cheaply.
  • Thank you but I am not very clever with diy so would prefer to get a locksmith in.
The assistant boss is due at my home at 10 am tomorrow so I will see if BOTH keys reappear. If only one comes back I am calling a locksmith.
I am going to let him look at the doors but will also be getting an independent joiner to quote too as I do not trust these guys and I think they will do the bare minimum
I still have not seen the deposit for the old house. I should have got it December 20th but I had to phone the landlord as the tank could not be moved due to the carpet fitters error. I still have the keys to the old place as the landlord did not want to pick them up over Christmas but I will be handing them over next week. my landlord is a fair man and I doubt he will charge me for the additional time as I did offer to hand them over before Christmas but he was too busy to collect them.
even when they fix the doors and miraculously return the keys I will be in a quandary about whether to pay in full as they have caused me upset and inconvenience.
  • Well he came round to see the damage today and promised to fix the doors. He came across as quite knowledgeable with doors
but still NO KEY. was promised to me today but I did not see it. The boss is still ill and he has it. I explained that unless the boss has a dangerously transmissible disease someone should have gone and collected it off him.
impressed with the door knowledge but angry over the key
