Help! Workmen from hell

  • You seem to be implying I am a bad custoner for not moving stuff. to clarify this I was notified at 12 noon they were coming at 1230 ans I had to leave for work at 1215. In those 15 minutes I moved nearly everything but left the couch due to being unable to shift it due to my back.and the tree. There was about 15 bin bags of my possessions that I could lift and were shifted.
If they had brought enough carpet first time round the house would have been totally empty
my main issues are they doubled my moving expenses damaged my property knocked plaster off the walls and have damaged every door.
These are not minor upsets. They still have my key and this has really frightened me as a woman living with a young child.
  • I am not implying anything against you personally, that might be part of your problem? The posting is a generalization of the other side of work situations. In 13 years of sub-contracting for one company,I had one complaint. Fitting a bedroom carpet for a "Lady" she asked for all the waste pieces to be sewn and fitted in her en-suite.Yes I sew joins and seams!! As this wasn't quoted for I said that I had time and would do it and would she sign the extra on my worksheet. She did so but was obviously a bit put out. The bathroom door needed easing but she wouldn't pay the £3.50 I used to get for easing a door and said she'd get her maid to do it ensitu with sand/glass paper under the door!!! Impossible, but I am a mere workman. On returning to the store at nearly 8.OOpm. The manager told me that the "Lady" had phoned and complained I'd refused to ease the door and wanted it done straight away.It was about 15 miles away.I obliged and to my surprise the "Lady" was not to be seen. Two sides to a story quite often, don't you agree?

No laminate was ordered which is why I was so shocked to have piles of it in my kitchen. my sons bedroom is still full of rolls of carpets and my doors look like Hannibal Lecter has knawed at them.

And I guess you weren't even there when they brough it in.

Seems like they got it very wrong from the start.

Why did they think it acceptable to leave in your house when you'd alerted them you didn't order.

I'm not really sure what this has to do with the op.
Hope everyone has had a good Christmas ;)
  • You have come onto a thread about carpet fitting and then launched into a diatribe about customers who you feel have treated you unreasonably. I have replied to this and you are claiming my response is part of my "problem". It is perfectly logical to believe your post is implying I am a bad customer because you posted it on my thread.
  • No I was not there before the laminate was brought in but I got there in the nick of time because if they had laid flooring I had not even ordered I would have told them to take it up again.

  • Well got a joiner round today who said he cannot make the doors good and I need new ones. went to shop and demanded my keys back. explained I had already been in twice before Xmas and had to sleep with chain on the door throughout xmas as I get frightened someone has my keys.
The shop owner is a nice guy and said he is going to do his best to get the keys back but no result today.
He says he would prefer his own joiner to look at it as he is concerned the joiner I get may inflate the bill.
not really sure about that but have said I am happy for his joiner to have a look but I am getting an independent quote just in case he tells his joiner to do the minimum he can get away with.
  • This is horrendous, I would be very unhappy about the key situation in particular. Please update as this unfolds.....
