............ I just did a quick search on Ebay for Broken Washing Machine and there are quite a few listings marked sold - prices seem to range between 99p and £25 depending on the brand and nature of fault.

Maybe have a look and see if a broken washer of the same model has sold recently and then decide what to do?

The make is more important than the model - a lot of the mechanical stuff is the same across a large number of models and it's just the electronics and the plastic which is dfferent (and they won't supply wiring diagrams, so there's not much hope of repairing the electronics)

If somebody needs a new motor or a drum, or the concrete weight has broken - they'll pay what it takes and keep or sell on a load of the other spares.

As you say CBC a chest freezer isn't worth much - if the compressor is running it's "good un" and that's pretty much all there is to them. There are also all sorts of hoops to jump through with regard to "de-gassing" so it's a completely different situation.

I used to have to pay £15-£25 for a scrap washing machine from the Tip - in the early '90's ! but that was a completely different life - :rotfl:

I hope you'll be feeling better soon, Xandersmum:T

Sometimes the charges that these 'professionals' land us with are more painful than the ailment or the cure:mad:

I had a few days and nights of toothache a few months ago and was dreading the cost of dental treatment:o. Miraculously it just cleared up by itself:j. I don't imagine for a moment that it's permanent but I was chuffed at the time:j

I was in the Post Office for ages as expected but I wasn't too bothered. I felt really sorry for the poor Postmistress though. It's a very small village Post Office inside a tiny village shop and she was the only person working this morning. She had to keep leaving the PO part, locking the door behind her, rushing over to the shop counter and dealing with the stream of people who just wanted a newspaper or milk. As soon as she was safely back behind her PO grille someone else came into the shop for something:eek:. Luckily for her I was the only customer for the Post Office section.

I asked if it would be best for me to leave the parcels with her to deal with when she had the time and I'd call back to pay later (she knows where I live, there's no danger of me absconding:rotfl:) but she was a bit of a jobsworth and insisted on knowing what was inside every parcel and needed me there in person:eek:.

I agree - if the Ebayer of the Month cannot pull this off what hope do the rest of us have?

I'm never going to live this down am I?:rotfl: I don't mind, I can take the sarcastic comments:T

Funnily I hate eBay (well, maybe just for today a lot less than I used to;)) and after a lot of selling from the late 90's until about 5 years ago I gave it up because of bolshie buyers and slow/non-payers. I so admire those who bite the bullet and list stuff week after week and make a lot of money for their trouble, such as Procrastinater and lots of others on here:beer:. I only did it this time because of the 100 free listings and 1p final valuation fees. You won't be seeing my name in lights again I can promise you;)
  • Question to anyone who does Prolific surveys. How long does it take to receive the money after requesting a payout please?

Have you ever had a payout from them, Emz? I'm still only on £8.90 and with redemption level being £40 I can't see me ever getting there:(. Also, their surveys only seem to be worth about 20p a time and I'm usually screened out anyway:eek:. I've a whole list of them waiting and just can't be bothered to put the time in to attempting them. Might unsubscribe from this one and cut my losses:o.
