The above is similar to my trip this November.

Flying into SFO for 4 nights then driving and staying in Yosemite NP overnight. We are then travelling to Death Valley for a stayover but because Tioga pass will be closed, we are stopping off in Bakersfield for the night (lovely Art Deco hotel called The Padre) as the journey from Yosemite to Death Valley is 8 hours and as I do not drive, I did not want my OH to drive this in one day (he is, after all on holiday too :-))

Then onwards to Las Vegas (journey time approx. 2.5 hrs) for 9 glorious nights.
    Thank you all who post.

    hi

Im glad im not the only one who would consider travelling alone , though i did have a few little concerns, though seem silly now !

In regards dubai, thats on the list of to visit !
Have you thought of doing a 2 city thing, as you mention NY and Orlando?
i highly recommend NY , we have done ny and vegas twice, both times on a 2 city holiday!

thanks again to everyone whom has mentioned about travelling solo, and well at the moment i am considering just up and heading to vegas and a few other cities as well i would feel.
Just gonna keep an eye out for deals and if things go okay i ll snap it up

Thanks for that Bobby . It's my daughter that wants to do Washington and or NY next year. TBH I want to do San Diego and Vegas again next year. But I'm going to see what combinations work price wise, lol. I was so close to booking February with Norwegian for just over £800 in February, but gave myself a stern talking to. I'd be miserable as sin, Vegas or not if it were cold, if truth be told, lol. But I've decided I'm definitely going back next summer : )

    no worries!
Just we both wanted to visit new york, as you do, and well from a flight point of view, it broke up the 10 hour flight journey.

stuie - ufo alley. is that in and around(though a distance away) around area 51?
In planning for our latest trip we were thinking in trying to look out one of these tours to be in and around area 51, but of course we put it off and never got round to anything!
On a side note, we walked to the vegas sign in june and since the sign is pretty much near a part of the airport, we had a little look for the any of the *janet* flight, though sadly none!

haha, janet flights were in the news today... Janet to Bones they become! :D
I don't care for the UFO stuff, I like long straight roads, especially when they are empty, when I am driving something with over 400bhp....
and I know ET highway is long! For me, its more about the driving, even on straight roads! :D
Yosimitie is somewhere I want to spend 2 nights and do a lot of sight seeing for myself...
Then upto Sacremento, only so i can start the southern route from there taking me over the Golden Gate Bridge :)
Then through SF onto the highway 1.....

I did the route from SF down to Big Sur on the A1 11 years when i worked in SF for a month.. But doing the A1 in a Buick Century (2004 model) was like driving a car on bed springs, hence the need to do it in a muscle car with a lowered stiffened ride height! :D

Got my ideas, just need to be able to put the plan into action, and not give into the temptation of having a 2 week holiday in Vegas again ! :D

I would go on my own, but my hubby wouldn't stand for it. But I've never had an issue doing things on my own (restaurants, shows, concerts, movies) if I'm the only one who wants to do it, I'll just do it. I agree with those who note that there are a lot of solo travelers there for work.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

I think Vegas is definitely one place where people should feel comfortable on their own. It's easy to go for a buffet alone, or even just have a snack somewhere. I'd be surprised if anyone was really staring at someone on their own. I can't really think of anywhere I'd feel more comfortable to be honest.

Another vote for solo Vegas travel but my OH would never agree to that! I wouldn't find it awkward dining or going to shows solo, there are far weirder things in Vegas!

I had ear problems on a trip to Australia one year and wasn't allowed to fly home so waved off my OH, parents and 2 yr old son and stayed 2 weeks on my own. Got to see The Blue Mountains, wineries, had meals out, met new people....fantastic time!! Never had ear issues in Vegas :(

Our friends had sky scanner alert set up for our dates next year (2/4-13/4) they managed to get flights from Manchester direct with Virgin for £381pp  they are sat on the first exit rows behind us (we are in PE) not sure the 2 metre distance between us is worth the price difference but never would have expected that kind of price. Even considered cancelling our booking and re booking but not flown PE so couldn't do it! Also not surprisingly the price didn't stay at that!
So for those that haven't already done it maybe worth setting up a price alert for your dates. I have one for October but it's not changing....

So-Stupid Q re picking up the Alamo car

I've "checked in" and the location does "skip the counter"

    So
I need to use " Alamo's kiosk and you will be on your way faster."

I assume this is like the airport and the kiosk is in the counter area?

I fill out my details and then go to the car compound??

    Anyone done this?

    Cheers

    hi
and thanks to bubble113, lesley74 ,ferf1223 and others in there recent post in regards going solo to vegas, just a big part of me now is seriously considering doing it now !!

As some people may know i ve been going to vegas with my brother, and well he is the most likely of us to do something mad(my parents were worried he d get married or arrested :o )

Just hoping things work out for me money wise and if so, vegas here i come !

and stuie i can see and understand the attraction of long straight roads, and driving in a big muscle car, but be safe of course!

hopefully some deals appear for flights and some M-Life offers too
kind regards and thanks again for everyones feedback :T

    Do the online check-in...
But when u get to the rental place, yup, u still gotta push buttons on the kiosk machine, but luckily there will be no queues for that machine(s)...
Bang in your details (took me 3 minutes when I did mine), and then it prints the agreement so u can goto the garage, and then slip somebody $20 to get a different car! :D:D
