We also got a real adventure out of it. Our copter developed a fault light when we landed, 3 pilots huddled around the engine for a bit, took it up and back a few times to check it out, then we had to board "hot" (while the blades are turning), quite exciting.

I refer to my earlier comment. Please delete in case Mr GG is reading :rotfl:.

I don't give a t*ss about telling people I've been, but with going all that way (we live in Spain so have an internal flight then a flight to London as well) I wanted to see it in all its glory. I could just have stayed away and saved my money as I live near where they filmed/film spaghetti Westerns as the scenery is so similar, though the scale is less. Maybe if I'd just squinted and pretended I was really far away :D:D........
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Thanks, we're on a three week tour with only three or four days in Las Vegas so wanted to have the optimum trip in the shortest time. I'm in awe of those of you who go to LV for a few weeks at a time, I've never been but know I don't have the stamina for that :rotfl:.

  • 44 days and counting for me :T This will be trip 14 or 15. First time flying from Dublin via Heathrow. Then on the way back I will skip the last leg from Heathrow to Dublin. Cheapest flights I have ever got at £356 return.

Treated myself with the car hire. Got a Porsche Cayman for the first few Days from Hertz and then a Mustang. Stuie, do you think a $20 handshake at Hertz will get me an upgrade to the 911? At what point do I try? At the desk or when I get to the car?

Rooms this time I fancied something different and found a reasonable rate at The Elara and will probably also try Palms Place for a few nights. This is subject to change however as I always book deals that I can cancel as have often found bargains at the last minute.

While I am in Vegas I'm going to drive to San Diego for a few nights. Did this back in May when I was last out there and really enjoyed it.

43 days for us. We have 5 nights at The Linq then also driving down to San Diego for 4 nights. Have booked a basic Hyundai for now, when we go will be trying anything we can to get some upgrade deals. Will only have this for the San Diego leg.

    Lol, $20 wont get u a 911 ! :D:D:D:D
But if it did, it would be a pretty dam good upgrade!!!
$20's work with Alamo, but Hertz, not so sure!
Are you a Hertz gold member ? if so, u try your luck at the gold desk...
Keys for those cars are behind the desk, where as normal cars and some adren cars, keys are in the car.... makes it harder to bribe a garage walker with hertz!
    Good luck!

What's the best way to get to Ellis Island from The Cosmo? Can you go through Paris / Bally's, or would you need to walk along the strip and down East Flamingo? We're going to try it this trip after reading so many recommendations on here. :)

I always cut through Bally's and come out the back door onto E Flamingo. Usually pop into The Stage Door on the way for a $1 PBR. The other way you can go which I sometimes do is via E Harmon. Keep going and take a left onto Koval and Ellis Island will be on your right.
  • For those that rent car's in Vegas do you take out your own insurance or just use the insurance that comes with the rental? I hired a Dodge Ram 1500 from Enterprise back in May and they would not let me take it unless I took their SLI (supplemental liability insurance). They wanted an additional $20 a day for this. Fortunately I had an annual international insurance policy which included SLI. Just planning for my next trip and wondering if I should take out another policy here that will cover me? I'm pretty sure my Hertz rental includes everything but I also have a 10 day rental with Avis. Don't want to be stung by any extra charges when I collect the cars.

When you book via the UK websites, it includes SLI and LDW (no excess), so if u booked via Enterprise, u must have done it direct when u were there, or via the US website...

Rule of thumb: Book via UK :D
My last 2 days of car hire in Vegas was with Alamo, but I booked online via netflights.com 1 day before picking up the car....
