For those that rent car's in Vegas do you take out your own insurance or just use the insurance that comes with the rental? I hired a Dodge Ram 1500 from Enterprise back in May and they would not let me take it unless I took their SLI (supplemental liability insurance). They wanted an additional $20 a day for this. Fortunately I had an annual international insurance policy which included SLI. Just planning for my next trip and wondering if I should take out another policy here that will cover me? I'm pretty sure my Hertz rental includes everything but I also have a 10 day rental with Avis. Don't want to be stung by any extra charges when I collect the cars.

Hi jackhorn, we rented with enterprise via US site too and they insisted on us taking their SLI but I adamantly refused and told them I had adequate insurance elsewhere ( we had purchased separately).

Normally always rent via UK site as Stuie said all insurance is included this way.

Heading back to Vegas for a conference soon, not much downtime but im going to enquire if I can get a Luxor mlife comp applied to my room reservation so I can utilise the free play offer, not too worried about room cost as work are paying :j
Anyone got a contact at Luxor?

$20's work at car hire too? I have a funny feeling we're with Alamo too, might give it a go! I guess they could work everywhere. We have a suite (the cheapest one) at the Monte Carlo in a few weeks, will a $20 nudge get us a better suite do you think?

Daughter would like to see Penn and Teller when were there - is it cheaper to get tickets when we are in Vegas from one of those ticket booth type places or book in advance now? I did see a discount site the other day, I may search that out again and book but I'd rather do it there if possible.
  • If you fly via London they don't let you clear immigration as you usually would if you fly direct to the U.S from Dublin.

    It's a pain. :(
44 days and counting for me :T This will be trip 14 or 15. First time flying from Dublin via Heathrow. Then on the way back I will skip the last leg from Heathrow to Dublin. Cheapest flights I have ever got at £356 return.

Treated myself with the car hire. Got a Porsche Cayman for the first few Days from Hertz and then a Mustang. Stuie, do you think a $20 handshake at Hertz will get me an upgrade to the 911? At what point do I try? At the desk or when I get to the car?

Rooms this time I fancied something different and found a reasonable rate at The Elara and will probably also try Palms Place for a few nights. This is subject to change however as I always book deals that I can cancel as have often found bargains at the last minute.

While I am in Vegas I'm going to drive to San Diego for a few nights. Did this back in May when I was last out there and really enjoyed it.
  • I'm thinking of spending a day at Disney in LA, is there a way to get discounted tickets?

    That's great, thanks Lovetotravel
  • Not sure I've seen it mentioned here on the forum but for something different to see there is an art installation that has opened 10 miles south of the strip called 7 Magic Mountains. This opened in May and will only be there for two years. As a new user I can't post a link or picture but they do have a website which will give you an idea of what it is all about.

I'm thinking of spending a day at Disney in LA, is there a way to get discounted tickets?

We have done this a couple of times before, while we have been in Vegas for a holiday.
We book a room for one night on South Harbor Blvd..minutes walk from the Disney gates.
We get cheap flights through Southwest...one hour flight.
Then we buy a 2 day park ticket...cheapest is 1 park per day...hopping option is dearer.

We are doing this again in our September trip...and to be honest,it is getting to be quite an expensive holiday add on.

Disneyland tickets work out dearer than Disneyworld by some way.
It's because we only have 2 days there, where as your Florida tickets average out a fair bit cheaper due to having many more days in their parks...usually.

Anyway...this is the site we booked ours from

    http://www.attractiontix.co.uk/tickets/disneyland-resort-california

It was £126 each for the 2 days...but prices seem to have gone up since brexit.
Have to admit,we haven't used this company for our previous visits,as their option is print a voucher, and exchange for tickets when you get there....we have always bought "gate ready" tickets in the past.

But the reviews for the company seem fine, and as stated the prices are getting ridiculous for a day in the parks now,so this was the cheapest option.

To answer your question...No you won't get discounted tickets for Disney...other than a couple of dollars...they don't need to discount them to get people in.

Apologies to everyone for a "Disney" post in the Vegas forum.:D

Thanks, that was really useful. I was thinking of going en route from San Diego back to Vegas but I'm not keen enough to spend that much ££ on a ticket.

I just want to break the drive up, but I'm going to find something else now.
