Dollar charge for a spouse these days. Have done for some time.

Was surprised at this, but you are right: "Before 2007, car rental companies in Nevada could not charge fees for additional drivers. Since then, additional driver fee on car rentals in Nevada have been capped at $10 per day plus an adjustment for inflation. As of February 1, 2015, the additional driver fee cap is $12.08 per day, per additional driver. According to Nevada law, car rental companies may charge a fee for any additional driver, including spouses, subject to the daily cap.
The applicable law is Nevada Revised Statutes 482.3158(1)(f), which states, “The short-term lessor of a passenger car may impose an additional charge for any authorized driver in addition to the short-term lessee but shall not, except as otherwise provided in this paragraph, charge more than $10 per full or partial 24-hour period for such an additional authorized driver. The monetary amount set forth in this paragraph must be adjusted for each fiscal year that begins on or after July 1, 2008”.

We picked up our car in California which has a state law banning charges for spouse driving.

Doodle- I also had a bit of an issue with Dollar this time. He was really trying the hard sell on extra insurance, I knew I'd paid everything I needed insurance wise through UK site but he kept putting stuff on. I must have repeated myself 3/4 times I didn't need it. We went back and forth with him putting different charges on card and me making him take them off again. Really aggressive and quite rude. I think most people would just feel bamboozled and pay especially after a 10 hour flight. Not impressed....

I wonder what the lost keys, battery and breakdown actually covers .
If the car stops working on the road due to mechanical failure surely this means they must recover and replace it.
These extra bits of "insurance" just seem to cover stupidity, loosing keys etc.

Well not really stupidity thank you...I lost the hire keys whilst in Vegas, it cost us a day to sort, that car towed, another to be picked up and quite a bit of extra cost financially. I was also incredibly distraught and recovering (at that time) from a serious illness, so it wrecked the day all round.

We travel quite extensively when we're in Vegas and those blown out tyres you sometimes see on the highways are what they mean by breakdown.

AA here is Triple AAA there and our home cover covers us there for breakdown, we just have to notify them and away we go. Make sure you have your AA card with you (also good for other discounts too).

We always get key insurance now but obviously don't require the breakdown.

it's a little mountain button here, above where you type your reply - though you have to have the images uploaded somewhere else and paste the URL of wherever the photo is stored online. :)

Codes are usually only valid for a couple of days. I haven't had any codes since last Thursday, but if I see any I'll post again.
