We are going for the 2nd time at Christmas and just wondering how the gambling and cheap/free drinks work. We don't really gamble (don't know how :-) ) but we will have a go on the slots this time. Which casino is best for beginners?

    hi

Hope you dont mind my butting in and to add what vanilla8 said
you sit at a slot machine, put as little in as you like and catch the waitress when she comes round ask nicely what you would like and wait, you dont need to play when shes away !:D
also when she returns you should tip the waitress i think the "norm" is a buck a drink so keep alot of $1 bills handy
    hope this helps

vanilla8- craps is something i ve tried to understand but no luck and my brother and I were planning to go to the free lessons at NYNY but never managed to get round to it.
we ve played once we put $20 each down and after a roll of the dice i lost, my brother won!

My answer would be much the same as vanilla and Bobby.

Check for slot machines with a low minimum bet. We usually play all lines at 1c/line. The lowest I've seen in recent years is 9 lines. Some of the newer ones are much bigger minimum bets. We also play video poker at 1c or 5c. Poor payables I'm told, but it works for us. A bit more thought needed than just pressing the button.

Enjoy yourselves and tip $1 a drink every time.

Well I've just bought £560.00 worth of $ from Tesco as the card I took out with them purely for Quidco has 21 month 0% although not sure currency is covered. I'll be getting $710.00 for that :( and the rest will go on the Post office credit card. I had to bite today, as with 15 days to go (depressing thought, in a month I'll becoming home today :() I'd kick myself if it dropped way further. Although now I've bought, it will be $2-£1 by tea-time :D

won't you be paying a cash advance fee for buying $ from the UK on your credit card?

Buying foreign currency from Tesco with a Tesco credit card is processed as a purchase rather than cash advance.

As JezR said, it's treated as a purchase, which is why i'm not 100% sure they'll give the cash to me on the same terms :)

The trouble with sitting at machines is that sometimes it takes quite a while to get a waitress.
We always start the night at a bar that has Video Poker. Stick $20 in and the bartender will be right with you. Lot's casinos (Cromwell/Paris/Planetho/Caesars/Mirage/TI) don't mind you playing minimum bets (25 cents) and the drinks are better than the ones you get sitting at the machines. Play jacks or better correctly and it is very unlikely that you would lose more than a few dollars in an hour. That's 4 drinks in my books.
Wynn and Encore don't comp drinks at the bar.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

adding to stonemans good advice about video poker - if you have an iPhone I got an app called 'winpoker ' and played on my commute to teach me the best way to play (it gives u the best hold outcome for every hand)
