On checking into The Signature at 1030am on Tuesday I had 20dollars in with my passport and credit card hoping to get early check in at a minimum and perhaps balcony room as had booked the basic suite. No joy quoted 30dollars (turned out to be 33.60 with the tax) hummed and hawed over whether to do it or leave bags with bell hop. took back the 20 anyway.0

lesley74- what a deilemma!
sadly i only know The Rio and Platinum by name, having not stayed in either but if you feel that Platinum is worth the extra money, and you would get your moneys worth then maybe i d stay with that.i hope there is no cancellation fees?
another thing to think about is, would you get value for the money you'd save if you went for the rio?
gamboller- aw bummer! may i ask if they asked you for the resort fees at check in? Im at the mgm in a few days and hoping to get the resort fee's wavied or get lucky and get them comp or reduced(or something to save money:D)0 -
Hi Lesley
I had a comped night at the Rio a couple of years back so gave it a try ( we were also booked in at the Orleans at the time so only a light carry bag ) and I was impressed.
The room was very spacious, the pool very nice and the strip courtesy shuttle from both the Rio and the Gold Coast next door makes it easy to get back in the action.
Having stayed at the Platinum also which is lovely my Vegas experiences have altered somewhat. I have had the fortune of staying at the very best but now it is bang for the buck so to speak. Of course the room has to be decent ( the Rio certainly is ) but after that saving a few quid to spend in Vegas is priority so that is my advice on your predicament.
Having said that, staying at the Platinum and then having eats next door at Ellis Island evens things up price was considerably. Remember to add the Rio resort fee which is $32.48 per night ...... ouch!
Whatever you choose, have a fantastic trip.0 -
Having read the tripadvisor reviews and looked at how much it would have cost to book we've gone for the Trump as seemed to be more bang for our bucks.
Followed that up with booking a £32 hotel at Madrid airport - one extreme to the other :rotfl:.
I think Trump would have been my last choice.
You say you don't mind walking but Trump really is out on its own at night anyway. Then you are North strip with a good old walk to centre/south. Have been told it's almost impossible to sit by their pool because of the heat generated by the glass reflection.
I remember the Westin what it was the Maxim, first hotel I ever stayed in in Vegas. It was a totally different hotel I can tell youThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
Bobbyhibs- Thought I would share my resort fee/comp experience from this trip, I know you're interested (nosey
:)).
In previous trips I would try the $20 trick, which was a big deal for me as I get embarrassed at things like that but figured if you don't ask you don't get. I have had good success at PH, Paris, Mandalay to mention a few. However the last couple of times seem to be different, at MC and Cosmo I have always been quoted upgrade fees. Now I would go with the thought of being happy with original room or expect to pay for upgrade which is usually cheaper at check in.
This trip I asked to see a slot host in each of the 3 hotels I stayed at before check out. I have done this once before at Southpoint, didn't speak to a host directly but asked at players club and they spoke with someone. Got resort fees removed for 7 nights. I had booked through a third party so that's all they could offer (which I was happy with)
I never thought my play was worthy of comps but I probably put more coin through in the slots than I think! I could have been getting freebies for years!
Silverton they took off $135 (stayed 3 nights)
MC removed $100 (even though I was already staying on an offer for 3 nights.)
Cosmo $0 to pay at checkout. I stayed 1 night in 1 bed terrace and had charged 2 buffets to the room. The host seemed surprised at my little bill ($264) and said no problem removing that small amount. Should have gone with the wraparound and expensive meal!! I did however have points on my card from the HL pull which would have made a difference. The night I stayed there I did manage to match that number of points, which I found slightly worrying!
I never play for comps and wouldn't advise it either but in my case was definitely worth asking if they could do anything. Factor in the resort fees as part of your costs and if you get them removed it's a bonus but don't spend your time whilst gambling etc worrying about getting resort fees removed just have fun!:)0 -
How much are you gambling to warrant speaking to a slot host and getting resort fees removed?0

Would also been my last choice as apart from the reasons you mention, I don't really see it as a "Vegas" hotel0 -
I've got a bit of a dilemma. I thought my flights were 14 nights sat-sat, but have now realised we depart Friday night, not Saturday. We have our first 3 nights booked at Tuscany, then 11 nights at Platinum (though we need only 10 of those as I booked the Friday night by accident!
I've noticed that The Rio is $20 per night for our last 5 nights. Our Platinum rate is $100 more than that, though with no resort fee.
Should we move to Rio for 5 (or a bit less) nights? Would save us a few hundred bucks!
Posting this from my bed in the RIo, first night so can't sleep. We like it here, it's our third time, the Pool area is great, the slots were kind to my wife and son last night but not to me....nothing new there..
We also got the 1600 sq ft masquerade suite thanks to a friend of a friend, sadly it will be the last time in one of these as he no longer works here:(
Worth moving IMO, although of course it's not walkable from the strip0 -
We've walked from Rio to the strip a few times, but only in the cooler months.0
