As for Caesars, we stayed in the tower that looks over the Bellagio pool , the one nearest the strip, can never remember if it's octavius or Augustus, but which ever it was my wife cried when we walked in, she loved the room and the perfect view of the fountains, and as it is Caesers it is quintessentially Vegas rather than a non descripti glass tower
Think you know by now which gets my vote;)

Vdara only have 4-5 different room types, I've stayed in their 'basic' and it's anything but. Beautiful, well maintained and modern and it comes with a kitchenette. The only reasons for choosing Caesars are if you want a more 'Vegas' experience given that Vdara is non-gaming and nonsmoking or if you want a big pool area (Vdara's, though nice, is tiny)
However the $20 trick always works at CP.
The one time I didn't bother with the trick there was the only time I don't get the Augustus Tower and I got the tower that leads straight out to the pool -room was fine and for a one night stay (I was flying into Vegas one day and out the next so it wasn#t a proper Vegas stay - that came later in the trip- it was quite a casino trek. I love the no trek from the Augustus tower.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

My wife cried when she saw the Caesars Classic room........
We stayed in the Classic Room when we went in 2008 (just before I joined this forum) Anyway, the room wasn't bad, it was a bit tired, apart from the bathroom. It was open plan, and there was no bog door. And also if you opened the main door, if you got the angle right you could just about see into it. It got a bit embarrassing once 'cos the room maid lady came in while I was, er, contemplating. I think she got a good view of my knees.
The room was still better than the one we stayed in at the Riveria. The smell stayed up my nose for about a week after we came home.BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.

hi
and thanks for the feeback I always enjoy readings about peoples stays in vegas intreting and find it intresting what people do food wise/show wise and sometiems i go bingo thats intresting we are gonna do this!
I like you dont play for comps i have budgets for food, shows, and gambiling but would always welcome a comp or 2, even if its just a buffet, every penny (or dollar) is a prisoner with me.
It seems you got your reosrt fees waived at the end of your stay, if this the norm?
If so should i speak to the Mlife desk before i leave?i was under the inpression you paid up front at check in, though im hoping to use our express comps or trying to be cheeky!
thanks again for the feedback and kind regards
Generally your hotel bill is paid at check out, so resort fees will be on this. I think some people may take the opportunity if you're checking out at front desk to say that you didn't use anything that the resort fees cover or try and haggle. However I think this may have worked in the early days of resort fees, but feel they are paid more often now. This is where I went to see the host if my play would cover any fees or food charged to the room. The staff at players desk don't usually have the say so on removing fees and will tell you to speak to a host.
Getting stuff taken off your bill obviously only works if you charge it to your room so if you like to pay in cash as you go along then they won't be able to remove it!0 -
So the hotels are booked for New Year/Honeymoon/30th Birthday trip. (27th December - 2nd Jan)
3 nights in NYNY - Park Avenue room
3 nights in Rio - Deluxe Suite
Decided we'd rather be off strip for New Years.
Contemplated going for a suite at Vdara as the first stop, but thought we'd rather spend the money in Vegas than on a room we'd hardly be in, so if the $20 trick doesn't work we'll be satisfied with what we've got. Plus NYNY means we're slightly further spread out between the two hotels.Current Debt: 0%.Current House Deposit: 7%.0 -
Thanks for all the advice, after reading Froggitt, Winter Jasmine and Ferf1223 I was going to book Vdara, but Duchy swayed it for me to Ceasars with the $20 trick. Should I ask for a complimentary upgrade to any of the other towers (I am assuming the room is in the Roman. I booked a secret hotel through Last minute and it just has “classic room” without mentioning the tower) or would it be better to name the tower and ask for a specific type of room if so which towers/rooms should I ask for.0

I've also stayed at both. Firstly, I didn't realise the resort fee would be quite so high?
Ellis Island doesn't swing it for us, possibly because we're vegetarian but we haven't eaten there for years. Last few times we have gone in was for LVA free drinks, but we won't have that this year.
What saves us money at Platinum is breakfast. We would otherwise perhaps have a buffet breakfast, but that would add to the cost. That said we will go out for breakfast some mornings at Platinum, but other mornings we'll make toast or whatever. At Platinum we'll also have a fridge stocked with juices etc. Then there's the extra space in the room. And not having to move. And the happy hour.
That said, the Rio is fun, and cheaper, the pool is nice. Choice of 2 shuttles (we don't mind the walk to Platinum in September as we can cut in the back of Bally's to get out the heat. Not sure we'd manage the walk to/from Rio in the heat.
We have a load of Total Rewards (Social Rewards) points, but Rio buffet isn't the 'cheapest' place to spend them. I do like their buffet, but it's fairly pricey. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0
