BMW 1 Series Coupe

Options
Hi there

I am looking at a BMW 1 Series Coupe, with either the 118d or 120d Engine, in M Sport trim.

Seen a few examples, but thus far they have been nails, lack of Service History, rusty rear arches, mismatched Tyres, scratches/dents etc

I like the look of them, however, anything up to 10 grand for a 10 reg Car with anything up to 60k miles seems a bit much?

I mean I could go out and get a respectable looking 12 or 13 reg Astra for the same Money, but that just seems unexciting to me...

I don't know what to do...

There is one BMW that is a 200 mile round trip away, but the Stratstone it is located at are reluctant to fetch it to my local Stratstone dealer...

Make a day of it and go and have a look at it, if it's the right kind it's worth the day and travel.
  • I know buying any used Car is a risk of taking on another persons problems, getting it wrong in any situation and it could be a headache or worse still nightmare.

Remember a used car that was expensive new has the expensive repair costs still even if several years old.
  • Whether the parts are of quality or the back street Garage of my choice know and understand a complex prestige brand, is another story, but looking at Euro Car Parts for wear and tear items and the like, they seem no pricier than my Renault Clio...

Took me 20 seconds to find this.

    http://www.cargiant.co.uk/mobile/detail.asp?id=745157

Full Service History and just over 50k miles

There is a cheaper 11plate which is under £10k aswell.

Though having driven a 116D and 116i a lot over that last 7/8 months I would go for an Auto.

Like most BMWs they are much nicer with an Autobox.

Stuff like filters or brake pads are reasonable.

But look at stuff like camchains for the 2.0D or AirCon compressors or similar.

BMWs have reliability issues just like any other car.

But when there are significant issues they will be costly.

When the camchain goes on a 2.0d BMW it cost thousands to sort out, and most of them will eventually have problems with the camchain.

The fuel economy figures on the 116D I owned for a while we're nowhere near what they should have been even when driven extremely sedately.

is it a BMW dealer and is it an approved used car if so i would go and look at it and if it is any good then buy it as you will have the BMW approved used warranty and can get any problems rectified at your local dealers

As it's at a Stratstone garage it's quite likely that it's an AUC BMW.

If so there must be full BMW service history and a pretty comprehensive 1 year warranty which can be extended - so no worries about timing chains etc.

If you like it - go for it!
  • There is one at Stratstone I was looking at, with 58k miles, on the advert, it is a Manufacturer Approved Car., I also believe it to have 12 month warranty. According to the Salesman during our Telephone chat, if my memory serves me it has 3 or 4 service stamps in the Book

Being a 5 year old car, he was not promising it to be spotless on the Bodywork, but said it is very good for the year.

PS thanks for your help so far :)

the BMW approved warranty is one of the best warranties you can get it is a very comprehensive warranty that gives you cover for the first 12 months, if you are going to pay the asking price try and get the dealer to throw in an extra years extended warranty

also dont waste your money on the paint protection that they will offer you I think BMW call it seal and protect
