If I see a potential good buy, distance is no problem to me.

Every BMW dealer has the ability to send you a personalized video of any of their stock, focusing on any particular feature you want more details on - state of the leather seats, 'road-rash, or lack of, on the front panels, etc

For my last car I traveled on the overnight bus from Aberdeen to London, then on to Croydon to inspect it.

There were only 7 AUC cars with a similar spec in the whole of the UK at the time.

Fortunately it was exactly as described and what I wanted, and the drive home was great fun adding to the pleasure of finding the car.

But I was equally prepared to get the bus home again if it had turned out a bummer.

I have also bought sight unseen in the past again from a ford main dealer in derby

I rang the salesman and he sent me a link to a walk around video which i looked at then rang the guy back, the car was two years old and he said it was near mint so i did the deal over the phone

the dealer was that confident in the car that he said if i didn't like it when i saw it he would give me all my money back and pay my train fare as well

I arrived at derby station and as the dealer was only a short walk from the station i decided to walk to the dealer, the car was mint i drove it home and kept the car for five years and never had any issues with it

for me now we have access to the internet gone are days of buying from a local dealers

For me the only two cars I have bought from a dealer have been brand new, however like you say the days before the internet
When I was after my 1st Golf, my friends Dad was a rep and travelled all over the country, so I would beg him to get me the various autotraders North West , North East , South West, I remember travelling from Brum to Buxton to look at a Corrado and the guy never waited in for me even though I rung on the way, (left a note through his door) luckily for me, there was one in Notts which was a better buy .
The OP should book a day off work or miss the Saturday football and go and view the car.

If it was me and i was really interested in the car I would be sat in a cafe near the dealers eating a bacon butty and drinking coffee waiting for the dealer to open in the morning, I prefer driving in the early hours before the world wakes up

Yep, I remember looking at many permutations on the train or coach to collect this car, hotel stays etc
The OP doesn't say where he is, I remember there was a local guy on this forum, off to pick up a car from Scotland, the OP has a very small taks to consider if he really wants that particular model spec year etc.

he said he wanted the car taken from stratstone jaguar to stratstone porsche in bolton so i asume that is where he is located

I would have thought from there you have good motorway links to most parts of the country, where i live i have got to drive 55 miles to the nearest dual carriageway so travel during the day can take best part of two hours to get decent roads hence my preference to travel early hours

Bolton does has good road networks, I like to travel off peak when driving, so I don't mind the early departure for an early return.
Here's the deal....view the car at Jag, and if the viewer wishes to purchase then Stratsone will make the vehicle available for collection from Bolton, nice win win situation eh?

It is a Stratstone Jaguar Dealer, but perhaps they have run if through BMW prior to selling, if they have approved it, and offer 12 month warranty, but again I don't know how they work personally.

It is just a shame they won't move it 88 miles further north to my nearest dealer, I don't fancy a 2 hour drive each way, or longer if traffic is a nightmare, Yes it's a day out, but with daylight hours being very short and cold outside I don't have the patience really.

I do believe they offer the best warranty system out there. But only til about 100k miles is it?

If you cant be bothered why should they.

2 hours each way is nothing if its the car you want

    go in the Yaris :)

I could go over to Stratstone Bolton Porsche and see what they can do with regards to a transfer of stock, but yes I have asked the Statstone Jaguar Dealer to move it closer quite a few times to no avail, only if I was going to definitely buy it, he'd drive it up here and use their Showroom to complete the deal. Other than that his only options he put towards me, I drive to his Showroom at 2 or so hours each way, or get the Train and he picks me up from the Station, but that is 6 hours each way.

I am in a position to buy. Maybe he just can't be bothered because of the time of year, he may think I am not genuine, even though I came across as I am genuine, or he knows he can sell it from his location.

    I just don't know.

If I lose out I am sure there will be others closer to me eventually.

You do realise you are likely coming across as a dreamer?

Why would a dealer waste his time chasing after somebody that he has no proof they actually want to buy?

This thread is looking more and more like a wind up to be fair.

I agree - many forum contributors are interested in running a new or fairly new car as cheaply and economically as possible.

Running a 'banger' is all very well - and very commendable - but if you have work or other commitments and of necessity do a high annual mileage - running a banger could bring all sorts of reliability problems.
