Welcome to the weekly Flylady thread. If you need help organising your week or getting motivated when it comes to housework then come and join us.

Thank you Natty for last week's thread

Every room comes back around next week so please don’t stress about catching up

These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.

Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.

A few of the basics before we start the week

Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!

Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.

Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis

HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!

Some of our abbreviations: DH- dear husband, OH- other half, KH/CF- affectionate term for ex husband or partner ;) DS/DD- dear son/daughter, DGC- dear grandchild, WM- washing machine, DW- dishwasher, LR/DR- living/dining room, RoD- room of doom, Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al- supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!

OK here we go!

Monday - a bit of everything!
Level 1

Back to basics and shine your sink!
Clear your hallways and stairs - we don't want any accidents!
Clear and wipe your table. Replace with fresh table linen as needed, or even just a fresh tea towel.
Level 2
Dust and deweb all through downstairs
Sweep or vac too
Level 3
Wipe down your front door, inside and out.
S&S the downstairs loo / cloak.
Extras
  • Dig out festive tableware / linen, if you use it - does it need a wash?
  • Check on spare bedding if you're expecting guests
  • Take a bit of time to reflect on the year so far, in all the rush of the season, remember what the true meaning of Christmas is for you xxx

Tuesday - kitchen and dining room
Level 1

Clear & wipe your counters
Wipe down small appliances - any need descaling?
Empty and clean the fridge out
Level 2
Wash a window
Wipe the tiles / splash back
Wipe switch plates and remove grubby finger marks
Level 3
Spend 15min on a DR hotspot
Wipe the table - including underside and legs
Wipe over the seats, wash any removable covers
Extras
  • Make space in a cupboard if you'll be buying extra food in
  • Spend some time with your diary
  • Check your naughty and nice lists ;) or any other lists
  • Are all your cards posted?

Wednesday - head upstairs
Level 1

Feather dusters at the ready: tickle all corners you can safely reach, including around light fittings, near the loft hatch, door frames and mouldings, pictures and photo frames, surfaces such as bedside tables and chests of drawers, and lastly window sills.
Level 2
Floordrobe clearance: grab a bin bag and an empty box and start picking up. Clothes can be popped on the owners bed ready for them to deal with (!) or flung in the direction of the laundry basket if needed. Rubbish to be binned, miscellaneous bits in the box for later sorting by the owner. Well done!
Level 3
Vac through all your lovely clear floors!
Does your bed need fresh linen? Encourage others to do their own ;)
Extras
  • Wash a window or two
  • Do any blankets / bedspreads need a wash?
  • Back downstairs - do your decorations need shuffling?
  • Enjoy a peaceful cuppa

Thursday - living room
Level 1

Remove all the bits and bobs that don't belong here and spend 15min rehoming them.
Level 2
Dusting and dewebbing. All the picture frames, coffee tables, electricals (carefully), fireplace, light fittings.
Give the sofas and chairs a wipe, yes, even the grotty gap between the seat cushions _pale_
Level 3
Vac through all your lovely clear floors!
Polish the mirror (if you have one, if not polish something else :))
Wash any soft furnishings that need it
Extras
  • Double check your home security - burglaries more frequent this time of year - keep presents out of sight
  • Any phonecalls to make in the run up to the holidays?
  • Do you need to hand deliver any cards / gifts?

Friday - bathroom and study / PC area
Level 1

Empty any bins, clear your windowsills and remove any gibble
Clean sinks / toilets
Level 2
De-grot the bath or shower enclosure - pay attention to the plug holes!
Wipe over any tiles easily reached
Do the floors need a mop / wipe?
Level 3
Clear and wipe your desk, only put back what belongs there
Finish any paperwork and file / shred as needed
Do any software updates / defrag the disc
Extras
  • Check on loo roll and other essential supplies
  • Replace any toothbrushes or wash sponges etc
  • Back up your photos
  • Get any last minute cards sorted - post by Saturday if 2nd class!

Would it be rude of me to take my marigolds round to my mothers to help her shift stuff about in a room which has had rats running about it, poisoned it in and rotting in it??

  • Thanks bossy...hope your week isn't too stressful.

Pigpen I think a hazmat suit needed too and wellies.

Doing basics this week and making a deep clean list for kids to do with me next week. Going dentist for first time in 5 years on Tuesday and I'm scared. Got Xmas dinner on Wednesday and car goes to be looked at. Thursday I would like to dye my hair and clean oven. Friday I'm trying to leave free apart from dailies for me time before kids off lol.

Monday sees me doing bathroom and bossing hubby to drill holes where I want picture frames on wall.
