The colour is irrelevant, it is the type of cable that is important, usb=bad, ethernet=good

you need 2 ethernet cables, like the one supplied with the router
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • From Google it looks as if your modem may have both Ethernet and USB connections. Is that correct?

If yes then do the following:

At your PC go to Start, Run, Cmd and enter:

    ipconfig /release

Then disconnect the modem and the router from the PC.

Go into Control Panel --> Network Connections and right-click any icons named Local Area Connection then select disable. Right click again and select Delete. Then shutdown your PC.

Now disconnect your router from everything and unplug it.

Make sure your cable modem is not connected to either the PC or the router and power off/unplug the cable modem and switch it back on.

Next connect the blue or yellow cable from the modem to the Internet port on the router and then switch the power back on the router.

DO NOT AT ANY STAGE CONNECT THE USB LEAD FROM THE MODEM TO THE PC.

Next - connect the spare blue or yellow cable from the LAN port of the router to the PC and power on your PC.

Go into the Control Panel of your PC and run the PC's Network Setup Wizard.

Report back with how you get on.

ok, when you hold down the router reset button for 20 seconds, is the power on? If it is being reset, it should go to stage 1 of the wizard, not 3.

I have tried this, and it mucked up my internet connection again.
I could 'disable' the local connection, but could not 'remove' it.

Then when I shut down & restarted the PC there was no internet because I had unplugged the USB cable from the modem.

I then had to run 'broadband medic' before the internet would come back on.

    :rotfl:

But you haven't, it said using Ethernet cable, not USB.

You also stated that this router definitely does not have a reset button.

Have you actually looked at the manual? You have obviously not read it!
