How many cable modems do you have?

IPConfig is showing you have a USB cable modem connected directly to your PC. Is this different to the ethernet cable modem you have been plugging into your router?

p.s. go back and edit the post you just made and delete all the 'Physical address........' lines and also the 'IP Address..........82.23.xxx.xxx' - no need to make those public.

I only have one cable modem, which was provided by my ISP. There is a USB plug in the back of the modem which has a cable going from modem to PC.

Thanks for the tip about editing my previous post ;)

  • The only IP address you needed to edit in the post was the one beginning 82.23....... and the physical address lines ONLY.

Please re-instate all the others otherwise it makes it impossible to figure out.

So you've never had an ethernet modem plugged into the router.

    That's why it won't work!!!!!!

You need an ethernet cable modem. There's no point using your router until you get one.

I have held the reset button for 25 seconds.

When iIclick on either the google link or http://192....etc it just takes me to stage 3 of the wizard.

I can't get one, as this is the modem provided to me by my ISP, they don't do other types.

There must be some way of doing this, as a couple of years ago I had a LYNKSYS router and exactly the same cable modem and PC, and my brother managed to get it to work (i remember it was not plugged into the back of the PC too).

If I connect Modem to router ONLY = Internet ON

OK - you said you were connecting the modem to the router. How were you doing this? Does the modem have both a USB and an ethernet connection? If yes, then you need to disconnect and stop using the USB connection direct to the PC, otherwise your PC thinks it is connected to 2 different networks.

Modem to router is connected via the blue cable that came with the router.

I have just tried unplugging the USB from the modem and plugging the router mains back in, and when I click on an internet page it still takes me to stage 3 of the wizard, which then asks for IP details.. and I get no internet.

have you got a digital camera?

these are the only cables you should be using,

completely forget and disconnect the usb cable

one between pc and router port 1

one between router internet port and modem.

if the cable modem doesn't have an ethernet port, you are going nowhere.
