I am trying to install a Netgear wireless router on virgin media cable, and it is asking for the following things -
IP Address
... IP Subnet Mask ... Gateway IP Address ... / Domain Name Server (DNS) Address Primary DNS ... Secondary DNS
How do I find out all these things?
Can i find out from my PC, or will I have to call my ISP?

Most routers find it on auto.
But you should have had the information provided to you from your ISP.
You do have the correct router for cable, not an ADSL version.0 -
This is the Router I have - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6753887.htm
I called Virgin Media (sounded like call centre in India)..
The lady gave me the primary DNS & secondary DNS numbers, but said she couldn't held with the other things(she said IP address shoulf be automatic).
Bit stuck now..
How can I find out the IP address, IP Subnet Mask, and Gateway IP address?I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -
Does the router have 5 identical ports on the back, with one labelled WAN, or 4 identical ports, and one port for a phoneline?
If the latter, you have the wrong router for cable. (Does it say dg834G on the bottom?)Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
try 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.20

It has 4 Identical ports and an extra one for internet on the back.
I cannot see dg834G on the bottom.
My other PC is 'seeing' the router. And it said in the argos catalogue that this router could be used with 'cable'
What should I do now?I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -
The fifth port, does a lan ethernet cable fit in it, or a phone minijack?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Connect the router to your cable modem/set top box using the Ethernet cable and then first power up the modem and then after a couple of minutes, power up the router and it should detect the necessary settings automatically. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

The important point I am trying to get at, is, is the internet port the same size as the other 4 ports, if it is not, then it is designed for a phone cable, to plug into a BT line, and therefore you have the wrong router, an adsl model instead of Cable/dsl model
This is for BT lines:
This is for cable:Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
