How come? A bank transfer means I get the money instantly and can actually use it. Insisting on using a cheque when the rest of the world has moved on means the money can't be used without taking a day of annual leave - unless the cheque is for thousands that is not going to happen!

Do you not like venturing out into the real world, breathing fresh air and having a pleasant but vacuous natter with the counter lady? Do you put other cheques in the bin such as road tax refund, gift cheques, compensation / complaint cheque etc

I haven't received a cheque for years, why on earth would I?

I venture out plenty thanks - that's what happens when you work 50+ hours a week.

Why would it be a special trip if you venture out plenty? You could get a friend or family to cash it for you. Or post it the bank. Most banks are open half day Saturday too.

What would you put it in the transaction reference box out of interest? 'Hope you're not the 1 in 3'?

    I've been Money Tipped!
Can't think of anything less thoughtful than bank transfer except paypal :wall::naughty:

I think its more thoughtful to look at the recipients personal circumstances. A cheque might be ok (not much effort for the sender so not sure how much more thoughtful it is) but being really thoughtful is making it the least hassle for the recipient. I work in an area with no banks, so to put a cheque in means making a special trip during the lunch break (when I have one). But everyone's circumstances are different.
Never again will the wolf get so close to my door

I don't actually have a cheque book anymore, I think you have to request them?

I natter all day with lots of people with lots of issues I don't need to go to a bank counter, and at a busy lunchtime the counter 'lady' could do without holding up a queue.

If someone sends me a refund, I will make the effort, but its not something I do as a hobby.

I would also like the recipient to have the money as quickly as possible. They can then walk to wherever they want rather than to the bank.

A cheque is hand written, usually with accompanying card and a cheque is tangible.
The art if hand writing and tangible gifts like cheques are dying.
Save high street banks, save dying arts like hand writing and god bless the cheque.

No one is suggesting you make it a hobby. As far as I know, getting married is a one off. Or you've married lots of times? I can envisage that being a big embarrassing if the counter assistant gets to know you over the years 'mr/Mrs Jagraf. ..another wedding gift?'

I venture put plenty to work. I spend my time either in out of the way offices or construction sites in the middle of nowhere. It's an exciting day at work when we have access to anything other than a portaloo - believe me, a bank in the areas I work is not going to happen.

I also think far too much of my friends and family to expect them to run 20th century errands for me. :)

I agree with the anti-cheque posts!. Receiving a cheque is not a nice present, considering that where I live no local banks are open on a Saturday morning. Plus it takes days for the money to clear.
I find it far more satisfying having a balance appear in my dedicated "payments received" account!.
