Good on you, Moonbean, if you were a bloke I would say you have finally grown a pair!!!!!

You can be nice, civil, warm and hospitable without being a doormat, and without knowing the ins and outs of your relationship, it sounds like your BF and his family expect a lot of effort from you without giving much in return.

Hope you find a way to achieve a happy Christmas without getting into financial difficulties.

Glad to hear that you have sorted it out in your mind- now you just have to implement the plan!

Have a really great Christmas without getting yourself into debt.

(Oh and if anyone gives you a hard time just say that you are saving for driving lessons and a car!- would they like to contribute??!!!!!)

  • You say you've already bought 2 vouchers at ten quid each. Give these to the two girls at work and then buy cheaper presents for the others.
  • Good on you Moonbeam well done

Are you talking about a different cousin to the ones in the post below - the ones you don't get on with?

Righty Had a long think about this all.

I don't think i'd be seeing my boyfriends family until after christmas and he expects me to knock around there door and give presents to them...apart from the hello and goodbye and me making the effort to talk, they don't really talk to me so that's a big no-no in my eyes.

For them I was either going to get a £4 box of chocloates or buiscutis or
make a small little pamper set to give them when I see them after christmas
and his brother a cheap lynx set. My partner said his brother wats money but
i don't see why i should have to give my money to them all when I barely talk.

The girls in work I'll spend up to £10 or less if i can but they are hard because they don't drik alchohol and don't think they want chocs or anything.... One of the girls I could by a pamper set from MR.T as a token gift.

My nan, grandad and my "adoptive" auntie & uncle can get tin of biscuits and choc for £4 or less,
becuase they don't want gifts from me anyway but I really want to get a token gift at least, they understand about having the children to buy for. Wish my dads side of the family was the same.

Next year I'll only really buy for the kids,
I want to save up for driving lessons,a car or to move out.

my two younger cousins could get cheap crap from M&B
cos I don't really care about them too much cos I don't really get on with them.

They get what they give really.

I've had enough of being nice & struggling.

I think I've asked this before:
why are you buying gifts for people you don't like?

Frankly if they are that picky I really wouldn't bother. Although I do give our nieces / nephews vouchers, but a) I know they will appreciate them (as much as teens do ;)) b)I usually have to post all / some so it works out more economical in the end than a gift set or the like c) I want to give them something I don't feel obliged to.

If you are getting vouchers, keep an eye on tesco, they often have discounts on gift cards, although their pre Xmas offers may have ended now :(

    Just buy for children.
I'm sure the adults wouldn't want you to go without to buy them a present. You need to eat & live.

    Definitely this.

I'd only buy Christmas gifts for the kids. They don't even need to be expensive! Only consider buying one for:

    - Your partner
    - Your parents

Aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces, etc can all take a hike if i'm struggling. I especially don't bother with that secret Santa garbage that a lot of workplaces to. I'm sure a lot of adults would appreciate it if you just buy em a drink or something? I'd even appreciate a protein bar! Christmas for adults is all about drinking and food.
