Well done we are only 3 months in and you are already half way there! :T

Must say this is a lovely community here to up my motivation.

Hi - while that is true my savings will always be skewed towards the beginning of the year because where I work bonuses are paid in February, so can always put away more in Feb than any other month. Still, the figures are motivating.

Thanks all for your kind words :)

I decided to go with the £2,000 this month. I have temporarily removed the £2k from my Nationwide FlexAccount and that £ will buy ITs in the S&S ISA tomorrow (Tuesday morning). When I get paid on Wednesday, that will then replace the £2k in the Nationwide FlexAccount.

I wanted to get the ITs bought earlier in the week rather than later in the week, because I think I'll get a better price. Not making any crazy predictions, but I've always been a believer of buying earlier in the week, and selling at the end of the week (usually Friday). A lot of people's buying/selling are influenced by their mood, we often see Thursday's and Friday's a good day in the market, and Monday's and Tuesday's as bad days in the markets.

I will submit my update when I actually get paid this week, and everything's all in order. :D

March's pay packet now received, with my bonus. Unfortunately it was taxed incorrectly at the higher rate, so Ill need to get in touch with HMRC and will be due a tax rebate. Fortunately I had enough 'cushion' that it didn't affect me much, but will be a nice little boost at some point in the next few months when I get paid the tax I've overpaid.

So that now gives my total figure for March at £2,700 (as below)

    £200 - HTB ISA
    £500 - Nationwide Regular Saver
£2,000 - S&S ISA (split 50/50 topping up existing holdings: Edinburgh IT and Pacific Assets Trust)

  • March total for me is £930, Car MOT next month and five fridays so anything over a grand will be amazing for April.

I have made a solid start so far but now is the most expensive 3 months of the year for me so will have to be well organised.

I've just submitted my March update, it's a bumper month for me at £550, partly due to my poor money management last month (which worked in my favour due to struggling through the month unnecessarily!) and partly due to the pension payout I mentioned in my last post.

WRT the latter, I spoke to the pension company to find out what happened, in terms of them having told me nothing was due to be paid out when dad passed away, and they admitted that there had been an error identified on someone else's policy which resulted in an investigation, which uncovered more policies that should have been paid out but weren't, including my dads. I wish I'd fought harder over it when I tried telling them they were wrong at the time, but am glad that they finally resolved it, albeit nearly 4 years later.

I've got an expensive dental bill coming up next week so split the payout, putting half into long term savings and the other half into my rainy day pot to go toward the bill. I will also make sure I treat myself to something nice (a crown at the dentist doesn't count :rotfl:).

    Happy easter weekend everyone! :EasterBun

Sorry to Slowlyfading for the nonsense update I sent to the update form this morning! Tried to update for March but was a bit ahead of myself :rotfl:

Ahead of target so far but I'm taking my son on holiday for a week in April which will be expensive. Hopefully I'll just fall behind to being on target instead of getting behind :)

Despite what I said earlier about waiting until the end of the month, I've spent the day doing finance-y things and thought now would be a good time to update. Declaring £910.04 for March (update form sent) with the £250 I'll be putting into my TSB regular saver next week, making my total for 2016 so far £2,543.53, so my pots are now £5,729.86 for my deposit and £80 emergency fund. Next month I'll have over 10% of my deposit, so starting to feel like I'm actually making a real (albeit small) dent in it :)

Much as I think the Help to Buy ISA is a waste of time for me, I've just opened one and deposited £1,200 in it. Santander only let you apply in person or on the phone, so I raced them with Halifax. 10 minutes on hold with Santander and I'd completed the Halifax application (on my phone), so Halifax it is! The idea being I'll aim to fill it up and squeeze in £3,400 by this time next year, then convert it into a LISA, which will actually be a good product for me. So long as it's not scrapped under a potential future left-leaning government and house prices in my area stop skyrocketing :undecided My MP presented this in parliament, things have got so bad!:

Anyhoo, that means my savings plan is now slightly more confusing, as I can't afford all three regular savers and the £200 Halifax deposit every month. So I'm going to pray I can keep up the dripfeeding and then get a decent payrise, or else I'll just have to not max them out every month. There are worse things in the world. This is my version of living on the edge.
