Quick success story: I bought 6 bottles of wine at Tesco yesterday for their 25% off 6+ bottles promotion. My favourite wine was on offer from £6 down to £5. Unfortunately, this didn't register at the till and I didn't realise until later when I was YNAB-ing that I effectively overspent by £4.50. I filled out the Tesco feedback thing as usual (for the clubcard points) and noted this. Within a day, over a bank holiday weekend, they'd got in touch and were sending me a giftcard for £4.50 to my house. Pretty good customer service I think :)

    So that's £4.50 towards April's totals already!

    #046 declaring £1250 for March.

I have just completed my monthly update. According to my spending tracker app on my phone I have had £3240 income this month and £1911 expenditure. This means £1329 remaining but I need to pay for some diesel and a few bits of food tomorrow so have kept £79 back for that and a contribution to my GDs lactose free milk as it is so expensive for my DD and SIL.

I am surprised I have managed to keep on target as I have paid the balance for our family Centre Parcs holiday in June this month, my DD was 30 so there were birthday presents and a birthday meal for her, a contribution to new clothes and a junior ISA for my DGD and petrol for a visit up to London to visit my mum and a birthday present for my Brother so a pretty expensive month. Not sure next month will be better as we have a long weekend in Middlesex to do the Warner Bros studio tour of Potterworld and a trip up to the Midlands to stay with my eldest daughter.

We are currently working out whether we can afford for my OH to retire this October rather than October 2018 so this may be the last year we can continue to save at the level we have been.

I've been looking at the spreadsheet and it's really got me wondering, how did everyone decide to save the figure they have chosen?

Did you choose it with the intention of knowing you will definitely achieve it?
Or did you choose it knowing you probably won't achieve it but it's possible if you are truly dedicated?

I chose mine knowing it's going to be a real struggle, but I like to challenge myself.

I chose mine knowing that I could hit it. I should have probably given myself more of a challenge like 10k but I have a tendency to fritter money on rubbish so I'd rather know that I will hit it and be happy than not hit it and feel like a failure....depending on how this year goes, I will probably increase it to 10k next year :)
    Saved so far - £28,890.97

I want to do 16800 regular (annual) and try for 5000 discretionary (467.74 over 9 months remaining). I think the discretionary target might be a bit high but I need something to aim for as when I’m on autopilot I get distracted by shiny boxes of Est!e Lauder. I have an annual target of 21800.
So what are your totals for Jan/Feb/March? :)
