So... I've been a bit busy with other things lately, haven't had the chance to get on and sell some stuff to add to my savings. But I have managed to save at least £500 pcm.
Updating my signature and submiting my amounts to the database now!0 -
Managed to lock myself out of my online savings account. Now I cant indulge in my favourite pastime of logging on just to see what I have managed to save (not a lot for some but massive for me who until this point had no savings). Will have to call RCI and try and get it unlocked.Moving on up

I had an unexpected (small) windfall this week when 2 cheques turned up from one of my (late) dad's pension companies. Dad died almost 4 years ago and had 3 private pensions, I had helped him complete the paperwork just a couple of months before he passed and he chose annuities which would pay out to my sisters and I in the event of his death (this was before he fell ill but he was always pessimistic about his life expectancy).
One of the companies denied that he had chosen that type of annuity and told me there was nothing to be paid out. I asked for copies of the forms submitted to the company as part of the application process but was unable to use it to prove anything either way so had to let it drop.
But, randomly, I heard from the company in November last year, and then 2 letters turned up from the pension company this week with cheques attached for 3 figure amounts. The letters were apologising, stating that they had found that we had been underpaid (erm... no, we weren't paid at all!).
I'm pleased because dad would have been annoyed as hell that the policy didn't pay out, and now I am trying to find out from them what the total sum should have been in order to identify whether there should have been another payment. They've added some money to cover lost interest over the last few years which is good, but their customer service etc so far has been pretty poor - especially the representative who asked if he could speak to the policyholder!!. This was closely followed by them revealing that they couldn't find any record of letters being sent to anyone since June 2012!!! - It's a good job I decided to keep all their letters because of how frustrated I was about not being able to prove what options dad had chosen!
Fingers crossed I manage to get some improved customer service from them when they ring me back next week, or I may have to consider going to the ombudsman; I also hope they don't change their minds again and ask for the money back! Assuming we get to keep the money, I'll be splitting my share in half, half will go into my long term savings and the other half will go toward something nice as a treat.£12k in 2019 #084 £3000/£3000
