£446.34 declared for January. This is much lower than intended but I've 'invested' in 2 holidays for 2016! Snowboarding in March and a week in the sun at the end of June. Both were great bargains and something we were planning to do anyway so it shouldn't affect my annual savings total.

    £1115 February

    £1000 saved, £105 from Halifax & £10 from HSBC.

Starting to get there now, after a woeful January.
  • I would say go (unless you have debts). You've got the rest of your life to save money, this might be an unrepeatable experience which will give you memories and bonds friendship for the rest of your life.

I look back on things I didn't do, as I felt I needed to stick to my strict savings budget, and feel sad I can never do them now, because people have died, moved on etc. :(

It's important to look after the future, but not at the expense of the present (Wentthedaywell's word of wisdom for the day :D ).

Well said Wentthedaywell? totally agree with you :)

  • #72 here declaring a total of £500 for January.

Pleased with this as it keeps me on track - was afraid of starting the year with a huge shortfall I'd be struggling to make up all year. Now just to keep it up in February! I've set in motion a couple of account switches which should net me £250, will certainly help...
2018 wins: Aspinal of London jewellery box, Boudavida gym outfit, HP Pavilion laptop, The List party tickets, All Points East festival tickets, Kiehls moisturiser, By Terry cc serum, Nars Liquid Bronzer, Benefit highlighter, Nars illuminator, Fresh advanced lip trio set, Cetaphil sample set, signed copy of My Absolute Darling by Gabriel Tallent
  • £600 for January. Had to file for my tax return for my 2nd job and owed £500. Had £450 prepaid but it wasn't letting me submit that amount, so I paid the £500 and reclaimed the £450.

In short - it means that in Feb I shall be "overpaying" with my regular target amount of £1k plus the £450

Still very pleased - most I have ever saved in one month!

Hi all, I would like to join the challenge if i may!

I have always liked to save and have been able to do some great things because of it - travel the world, pay for an expensive course for a career change - but now I am 31 and living in rented accommodation in London....need to start thinking about the future!

My plan is to save around £40000 and have my own place by the time I am 35

In terms of this challenge I would like to have a target of £9000, so on average £750 per month. That is a bit of a push but I am determined to do it, I owe it to myself rather than frittering away my money on lunches out at work and random c**p!

My finances at the start of the year stood at £8142.47, made up of:

    First Direct Regular Saver: £2400
First Direct ISA: £2509.15 (Rubbish rate, can't wait to change it)
    TSB Classic Plus: £816.28
    TSB Regular Saver: £750
    Zopa: £1142.75
    Ratesetter: £524.29

I will declare a total of £712.28 for January, not as good as it sounds as I had a bonus from work but I also had a nearly £200 OD from Xmas which wiped some of it out!

7.9% of the way there! Woohoo! :rotfl:
  • #137 declaing £547.42 for January. Very pleased with this as I was aiming for £500 and its been a long month. Over 10% towards my target as well.

My savings target is probably no longer achievable. Apparently OVO aren't willing to set a £1k+ DD when your usage doesn't match it
    Mortgage (Nov 15): £79,950 | Mortgage (May 19): £71,754 | Mortgage (Sep 22): £0
    Cashback sites: £900 | £30k in 2016: £30,300 (101%)
  • just remembered that I set up a DD for £250 which means I have actually saved £850!!!
