Well it is all shaking down from last week's big car write off. New (to us) car being collected today and I have raided our emergency fund for over a third, plus a £510 holding deposit (£10 credit card fee!) and the other lump coming from a credit card transfer to my bank account - 0% until 1st Oct 17 for a one off fee of 1.9% - a lot cheaper than the 9.9%apr on offer at the garage.

Without Tilly Tidying for the last three months we would have really struggled. Over £1400 had boosted the emergency fund so there is still some for another emergency.

I will leave our target as a stretch because I am not going to take the deposit off our savings total - we just have a few hundred less each month "disposable" as keen to pay down that card before next year and build that emergency fund back up - so our total is what we have saved, not what we have increased our savings by.

Paying out of our savings toward the car does mean we are not breaking even between mortgage debt and savings yet (I was hoping to crack this in 2016).

Well done everyone - some great progress and positive thinking in the face of set-backs!

  • Good morning,

I'd like to join for the remaining 2 months, please.

I am funnily enough doing the same as bobobski! £200 in to my HtB at Virgin Money and I'll aim at £175 in my First Direct Saver.

I've a goal of getting £3k by May, hence the awkward amount. I'll hopefully make an overpayment too.
  • Well what an eventful month...

    Amount put into savings, £1,183

    Interest £45
Salary £898 (lower than normal as had a holiday to pay for)
    Mileage £25
Cashback £214 (A cheque from Natwest re mortgage charges from 2009)

However, as Mrs matt_66 and I are in the midst of a house buy we had to withdraw £929 from my savings

    £310 legal fees initial payment
    £199 Mortgage application fee
    £420 Survey fee

    Therefore net increase of £254

Oh that's great! Thanks SF :). Im looking forward to getting my teeth into 2017, been a very crappy year with things going on so a fresh start will be a blessing - even more so on the saving front ;). Might be able to hit 20k by mid/third of the year so rooting for that :j.

Thanks again for your hard work and commitment SF, ill have a look at the link you prev posted about Christmas food donation <3 x
I'm already thinking about targets and planning for 2017, never too early :D and thanks if you had a look :)

  • Bit of a major set back last night as DH was involved in quite a major accident last night (closed the major trunk road ) - he is OK but the car is a write off, along with the chap's who he ran into the back of (three separate accidents in less than a mile). Mercifully they were unhurt too. I will look at revising my newly challenging target downwards again, as we will need another car to replace ours and the insurance won't cover all of it (and there is a large excess to swallow, and the premium will go up...) ho-hum. C'est la vie!

The most important thing is that nobody is hurt.

Just seen this - glad that your DH is okay!

  • Am I too late to join? Even if I made my target for the remaining 2 months? If not, it's ok. I'll save for now and start in January.
Not at all! What do you want your target to be? Your challenger number is 188 :)

  • I've just transferred £1200 to my savings SF, I've added that sum through the link. Next month is going to be harsh though - Service and MOT time! Not to mention Road Tax... :(

  • I am declaring £991 for September (Sorry if this makes you twitch and want to give me £9 lol)

Managed this due to a bonus from work, even after paying £300 for a hotel stay for next year :j

    So now up to £7,344 / £9,000
    Save £8,000 in 2023 #10: £49,148/ £8,000 :j
