Mobileshop are they dodgy?

No they can't object to you wanting to port your number as you are allowed to do this. A fee may be charged for this process though according to OFCOM. The problem you have is if it does affect the cashback then you would be better paying the £10 admin fee than risk losing all your cashback.0

They have just confirmed this, but said i cannot change my number after, i would have to pay full price for the phone, am wondering what other charges apply during my time with them, thanks bbb_uk, i need to know of someone who has gone the full year before i can take the deal i think.0

I think you'll have this problem with most companies. I know, for example, Singlepoint (Dialaphone, etc) charge for porting numbers or charge for issuing pac codes. It is really the four main networks that don't charge.
If the phone you want and tariff is the cheapest possible price including cashback, etc then I personally would pay the £10 admin fee to ensure you get the cashback etc unless another company can do it cheaper. I'd stay away from onestophoneshop as their name often comes up on this board.
Have you tried MobileServe.com to see which company does your phone/tariff the cheapest but remember to check them out the best you can about how they are with cashback's, etc.0 -
Thanks will check that out, great tips and advice, you are a star!!0

i went with mobileshop and ported my number onto o2, hence a £10 charge. They only charge for number porting on o2 and vodafone. Originally i was going to move to Orange and it would have been free, but decided to take o2 deal. Therefore there must be a reason mobileshop charge the £10 for o2 and vodafone, and if you were to try and go direct to o2 etc and save the £10 charge you might affect the terms of your contract/cashback. For £10 i dont think its worth the risk!
In reply to the insurance question, i phoned a number off of saynoto0870.com and was told to cancel you phone 0870 458 7002 and when you hear an option for cancelling insurance DONT select that option, as the girl i called told me that option just gives you a recorded message telling you to put it in writing! She told me to phone that number and select the option for reporting a claim which puts you through to an operator where you can then ask them to cancel the insurance (instead of getting it in writing, which is a pain, they record your call asking to cancel - which is the proof they need).
Hope this helps!
(oh and i agree with the many people saying avoid onestopphoneshop - avoid like the plaque!!)0 -

i have only just took my contract out with them. But on first impressions im pretty confident i will get my cashback. This is my first time going for one of these deals, so like you i was very wary before going ahead. They have been around for 7 years which is a good start, and given they are one of the well known online firms - i wouldnt be suprised if at some point carphone warehouse or the likes of them come along and buy mobileshop (which would make getting cashback even more definite). Another factor that swung it for me was their good customer service, and online order tracking etc, all very helpful - unlike a certain company called OneStopPhoneShop - who i could write an essay length description of how they have messed me about in the past few weeks!!! Customer service at OSPS - worst iv ever experienced!! Even something as simple as claiming my postage costs from OSPS has proved a nightmare - so id hate to see what its like claiming cashback!!0 -
Hi all
Been following this all day, to see what the outcome is. Looks like the company are fairly reputable, but I can't find out from their website if you're tied to them after the first 12 months. I'd be quite happy to have all this free for a year (!), but don't want to find I subsequently have to continue my contract full price for a further period of time.
Does anyone have any ideas?0 -

You DONT have to continue on after the 12 months, i wouldnt have taken it out if that was the case. You simply give notice in the 11th month you do not want to renew your contract! Simple!0
