Have been with Avro for a year and wanted to renew with them.
They have always over-estimated my usage, but as they were otherwise efficient, I left it at that. However, now I'm looking to renew, I asked that they used the actual usage figures for the next year. As my monthly fee should be £52, but they want £80!
Their reply stated they were using my actual usage figures, which was not correct.
This means I will have to change supplier, when I don't want to and set up, yet another, new online account for the new supplier.
    Their loss, my hassle!

Exact same thing just happened to me. Currently pay £51pm and am well in credit. They now want £59pm basing it on my ‘actual usage’ which is complete c**p. I’m considering going separate companies for the first time, keep me informed with how you get on

    Whoops.... :D
  • MSE Cheap Energy Club gave Avro Energy 'Simple and WinterFix' as one of the best tariffs for me and reviews of Avro were on the whole not too bad, so followed the link to their website, input my details to get an official quote from them and they only offered to me 'Simple and WinterFix Seasonal', with a near £50/mth difference in the direct debits between the cold months and the warmer months. I don't want seasonal, my wages aren't seasonal, the whole idea behind direct debits is to spread the cost equally throughout the year - Ofgem have a lot to answer for allowing for this loophole.

MSE: If Avro are now only offering seasonal then please update your website/energy search tools to reflect this.

Back to square one of my search for a new energy provider...

There are problems in the market at present, but I do think that there is far to much bally-hoo about "seasonal" DDs.

This isn't a "loophole". Long ago, the big six were persuaded that flat-rate DD payments would be a good thing to offer customers - and on their fat profits, they could afford to take the financial hit this involved. A hit exactly the same as you are pleading - the imbalance between cash-flow in and cash-flow out.

We've all had the opportunity to benefit from the new, leaner, competition in the domestic energy market. I've always aggressively chased best value and my own costs are 25% lower than the peak reached 6 years ago. You really can't have those lower prices and yet resist any counter-balancing effort by the suppliers.

Cash flow problems are not just an issue for customers.

Good points there. Perhaps we customers (myself included) are guilty of just accepting that the energy suppliers could afford us to spread our cost over the year. Maybe we should do it ourselves now by putting extra money aside in the summer to compensate for the additional cost in the winter. It is typically the smaller suppliers that take payments in advance too, rather than letting us pay after we've used it.
    All down to cash-flow management.

Customers who really don't like the idea of paying more in the winter than in the summer could be more pro-active by getting onto a variable tariff until spring and then switch again. If you always switch in spring (i do) then the likelihood of seasonal DDs being required is negligible if not zero.

Well that's exactly how we all used to do it years ago, before it became generally the case that paying a fixed monthly amount by DD could save us money.
If things have now gone full circle, I won't worry too much.

As this is a money saving website, I will choose the cheapest supplier/tariff that suits me irresepective of how the supplier wants paying. As I say, I learnt that many years ago when suppliers wanted then paying by direct debit to give me the best deal.
You've gotta keep moving with the times ... :)

Avro do have a 'Simple and WinterFix' tariff, rather than 'Simple and WinterFix Seasonal' which has the same DD all year around.

You have to phone them and ask for it if that's what you want, it isn't available on-line.

We are with them at present and current tariff ending so after looking around thought we would stay with Avro and Simple Winter Fix - however when going through there link to renew the only tariff offered to us was Seasonal Fix option.....only this.
An email 10 days ago was acknowledged but no answer to our query which was had they factored in our £140 credit into the estmated new monthly charge which varies ie spring summer/then jumps higher autumn winter....

As for speaking to them well ......how and any idea on best time to phone!!!!
Stayed on phone 3 times each over 15 mins. Last time was over 30mins.....tryed mid morning early afternoon.

If we do shift goodness knows who we would get or credit back

We hear about the Big 6....well I managed to get through to one on Monday for MIL it took a few rings and phone was answered.....just a shame there prices aren't good for us
