I got the email from Octopus yesterday too, even though I've got a start date of the 7th with Sainsbury's. I'm summising that they sent it out to everyone that was on Avro's books as of yesterday, or possibly from the day they went pop. I'm guessing I'll need to deal with Octopus from the 7th to get what will be my relatively small balance left there even if the rest of the move goes through smoothly.0

As far as i can see, any readings you supply, would be checked by the mysterious 'third party organisation' often referred to on here for validity. What's the difference between trying to submit them to AVRO, (which i have tried myself, unsuccessfully to do several times lately after an email from them asking me to do so) and submitting them to Octopus when your account with them is created?
Yesterday being the last day of trading for Avro.1 -

Yesterday being the last day of trading for Avro.
EDIT: They say meter readings MAY be added ("You don’t need to do anything but...") but don't say that it "needs to be done because Sunday was the last day of trading for Avro".0 -
Doesn't say that on mine either. Even if it did, i don't see why. Just more silly hoops to jump through.

Obviously you didn`t read it fully.
Don`t put your readings in then Octopus will estimate your readings for you.

Your choice. No, it specifically says that "you don't have to do anything". That's good enough for me.I'm sure they will ask for the readings upon account set up, rather than 'guess'.Thankyou for giving me a choice.0 -

I think if Avro have been over-estimating your usage then not submitting meter readings may result in more of your energy being charged at the cheaper rates when you do finally get told to submit a reading.
They were under-estimating with me so I submitted readings the day they went under to ensure my true, higher usage was locked in at the cheaper rate.
As it's not mandatory, choose whichever may give you an advantage.0 -
Getting back to the nitty-gritty of pricing, I've been running some numbers based on the Flexible Octopus tariff and, on balance, I think we may come out fairly well on this account. Not as good as the former Avro tariff, of course. The Octopus web-site mentions that this tariff is £10 under the tariff cap and running some numbers suggests this is £10 per month under the cap. I think this is probably better than we might have expected in the circumstances. The downside to this, of course, is that Octopus has some headroom to increase prices down the line.

I`m just very grateful we were not transferred over to British Gas (as when Breeze energy folded) they were horrendous and caused many people no end of problems, me included.3
