If we were to switch, can you schedule the switch date? Since the Simple and SuperFixed tariff beats anything so may as well ride it out to the end. TIA
If you have received the 42-day wonder renewal letter then, by default, the switch date is the day after your existing tariff expires. So you get the maximum time on your existing tariff but you can change it to earlier - I don't know anyone would want to do that.
In terms of flexibility, Avro lets you switch from a fixed-term tariff without charge so if anything better comes along later in the year there is no impediment to switching again; be it to another tariff with Avro or another supplier.

Orbit was the cheapest for me but I stayed with Avro on a 12 month fix.
My new tariff starts when the old one ends on 18th May.

I worked out that orbit which was variable would only need to increase their tariff by 5% to wipe out any gain I would have made.
And they can do this at anytime.
Furthermore if you read any reviews about Orbit, they have a habit of luring you in and then whacking the tariff up by something like 20%.
OK, you are free to move if they do this but you won`t get the same Avro tariff that you could now.

Can`t see any reason why wholesale prices would go down this summer anyway.
With countries coming out of the worse of the pandemic, more likely prices will go up.
    Just like the petrol.

These are a regions daily variable rate today tariff referred to, easy to see why people fix at best rates they can at a particular time
    Electricity Unit rate: 17.1 p/kWh Standing charge: 16.88 p/day  Gas Unit rate: 3.59 p/kWh  Standing charge: 15.09 p/day
This is Neon Reef for Electricity Fixed  14.152p per kWh  24.817p per day

Variable 13.665p per kWh  Standing Charge 12.107p per day

  • Thanks for the replies. I've decided to take the renewal quote from Avro in the end, as that will start after the current tariff ends + the comment re: Orbit's variable rate potentially changing for the worse and wiping out whatever saving you would have made anyway. There's no exit fees to leave Avro either so if I get notified via the MSE Cheap Energy Club that there's a better tariff out there in future, then we have the option of taking that up.

27th March I emailed requesting my credit balance be refunded.
12th April Henry from Avro replies with a lot of yada yada and agrees to refund ¾ of it.
    Still waiting.

7th April my daughter emailed requesting a refund. Still waiting also, not even a reply.
I'm some £190 in credit, mostly from a Warm Home payment, so I emailed support@ requesting a payment holiday on 16 April. Last year they responded within 24 hours and and agreed to a holiday two working days later. This year I'm still waiting for an acknowledgement nearly two weeks on.

Probably a coincidence but I have just had my refund, also daughter got a reply agreeing to her refund.

Had another coincidence today. Got a call about a phone network configuration fault affecting TT and Shell customers that the latter weren't aware of despite it starting mid-December. At the time of the call it was still there but an hour later it had been fixed.

Me? No, it was a Metaswitch configuration issue that had changed the ringing cadence to a US-style single ring. Meant answering machines like mine that counted each ring took twice as long to answer so callers would hang up.

Avro Energy blocked my transfer as I had a debit balance of £78.92 on 19/05, due to the seasonal nature of the monthly payments scheme. My monthly DD is £82.86 and will be paid on 25/05.
It is unlawful for an energy supplier to bock a transfer if the debt is less than 28 days old, but they did anyway. Search Citizens Advice for transferring to a new energy supplier (I can't post links)
They have not contacted me, they do not respond to email and the phone and webchat service is closed.
They did, however advise me via twitter that the objection has now been cleared, after I paid the amount by debit card. They also advised that I now have to restart the transfer and if it is not done before the next bill, the transfer may be blocked again as there will be a debt. Hi Nocturn68, an welcome to the forum.
They shouldn't really be doing this but unless people make a formal complaint and compensation is awarded then, sadly, it is likely to continue.
