Does Avro online console not allow customers to set own monthly direct debit amount Minimum £1, £5 or £10 etc ( Many others do have that facility/option)
  • ... but if your account is in mega-credit then there aren't any "sums due to us", and any credit ref agency would take a pretty dim view of a non-payment of a non-existent amount!! I think Avro or whoever would risk making fools of themselves if it came to the crunch in such circs.
I remember with Tonik there were many threats in similar circs of sending in the heavies which as far as I know never happened.
If I'm not mistaken on the Octopus website  that comes  up when the bills are presented there are links to adjust one's D/D in addition to making manual top-up payments. This strikes me as the responsible way of managing accounts

Ha, if only!  No, Avro set the DD (invariably too high, in addition to taking payment in advance) and then you have to ask for the credit back once it gets to in excess of one month's DD.  Of course, they bank on (literally) customers just letting their credit build up without questioning it.

True, but I never let a "mega-credit" build up - once it gets to more than one month's DD I ask for it back, but then I end up building up more credit simply because they've set my DD too high in the first place (of course I realise they'll always set the amount in their favour rather than mine :/ ).

I've been trying to see what tariffs are available through moneysupermarket.com but no matter which browser I use (Firefox, IE, MS Edge), the tick box to get all-of-market results is just not appearing so I can only select tariffs which they can switch.
Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me?
The checkbox is extremely faint and easlily missed.  It's immediately to the left of 'Show me widest range of tariffs* '.  It does show Avro.
Thanks for that Gerry1 . I think my "mistake" on previous attempts was that I did not tick any of the options to consent to spam from MSM.
I've now managed to see the tick-box (using Edge) and, as an EDF customer at a neighbours address, Avro's Simple And SuperSwitcher comes up on the first page (of five) but that's the only one from Avro.
    Thanks again for the help.
    Edit
I must confess I find it a little disturbing that by selecting any address at my postcode I can see which suppliers all my neighbours use. So much for security at MSM.

  • May I suggest that you do the same exercise using the MSE CEC engine and see how the results compare? For a start the CEC filters are more refined than MSM. Interesting to know what conclusions you come to.
I am not  aware of  ever having consented to getting spam from MSM however desireable.

  • "Simple and SuperSwitcher" is even less appealing than last weeks excitingly named tariff.. no thanks.
I can wait until the Summer on my current fix, maybe for the Super-duper-special-switcheroo-VIP-megabucket-youwantfrieswithit?-highvoltage-nippletweak-uberduber tariif.

After entering my address and consumption details the site asks for permission email, text or whatever to keep me "updated". Originally, I didn't tick any of these options but on the last attempt I ticked the email box and the whole-of-market tick-box became visible.

I'm sorry that's been your experience; it hasn't been mine and the Co-op were the worst energy company I've ever dealt with.  I agree that Avro set DDs too high, but when I was over a month in credit last May I emailed them asking for a refund and they replied within 5 days agreeing to do this and promptly did so (I'm in credit again though in mid-winter, so I should have asked for more!).  I think timing is everything when asking for some credit to be refunded - for example, I don't think they'll agree if winter is looming or if you're near the end of your contract (because then they can hang on to your money for up to 8 weeks).  To be fair, I haven't experienced all the "service" that Avro has to offer - I don't want smart meters and I've yet to switch away from them (which, from the comments I've read on this forum will be an experience all of its own!  :#  )
The switch itself is not normally a problem providing your account is in credit. In my experience, the final bill always takes 6 weeks and any refund takes another two. Given the amount they have saved me when with them I can live with an 8-week "delay" in getting my credit balance back.
If I had been with another supplier I wouldn't have seen that money EVER again because it would have been swallowed up in higher energy charges.

Existing AVRO customer since Oct 2017, after initial teething problems, its been fine. One refund requested & dealt with promptly.
House sale completed 8th Jan, final readings sent online 7th Jan as we left for temp accommodation until house purchase goes through. I followed website instructions about notifying COT team by email. They emailed 18th Jan to say Final Statement online. It was in credit, and as I'd half expected, another DD for £85 was taken 20th - so credit is now over £100 BUT that is not reflected in the Final statement.

I'm expecting refund to be made by mid Feb. Does anyone have any experience of DD being taken after Final statement generated?
