I'm not aware of any "obligation" on any consumer to build up and maintain a (large) credit balance in anticipation of what may or may not be future expenditure. Granted that the supplier has a case for preventing excessive debits from building up, the consumer has equal rights as far as credits are concerned.  Am I missing something?
As far as I'm concerned, if my monthly DD is based on 1/12 of the cost of my estimated annual consumption (as provided by me to the supplier) then whether a credit or debit balance arises during the course of the contract is entirely incidental.

  • .. and entirely logical - until you get subjected to the usual pre-winter sales spiel about building up your credit balance in anticipation of higher winter fuel bills (such balances rarely being reduced when winter is over unless the customer makes a fuss)

Again, as far as I am concerned, the correct time to ask for a refund of any credit balance is at the end of a contract. The DD should then be reset to 1/12 of my estimated annual cost for the next year and any credit balance from the previous contract refunded.

Avro have now updated their website.
They are now accepting one-off payments online by card.

They've been advertising and promising this facility for as long as they have been suppliers..
I wonder if the worry about rising bad debt due to covid has prompted this reaction. In any event its about time, if you ask me.

  • And in other news, they are still adding a fraction of a unit to my readings submitted on the billing date. 0.8kWh of leccy and 0.2kWh of gas. :D

Could be they are artificially rounding-up the monthly charge to the next penny.
As an experiment, you could try adding ".0" to the readings you submit and see what happens. B)

They have updated their website but you cant view your bills. it just spins round and then stops. I assume this is the same for everyone and not just me because I have emailed them, they said that they are aware of the problem and are working on it.

I've just checked and it works fine for me - I can view my statements - so it looks like it's a sub-set of customers who are affected.

I sometimes get this sort of problem on some websites due to Firefox add-on NoScript blocking some new scripts.
