Many have found them to be more trouble than they are worth due to a combination of faulty meters and/or faulty suppliers. I'm not even sure this mythological DCC is even working properly yet.
Recent advertising has now given up on selling us the idea that they will save us, the consumer, money on our energy bills but will, supposedly, enable the energy industry with its forward planning for energy supplies - code for assisting them to manipulate energy bills for their own advantage while the consumer foots the enormous bill for their installation.
Biggus Dickus (how is your username not !!!!-ed?) is there no way your meters could be moved indoors for free? I believe E.on used to do this. Otherwise, think of the brollies you could buy with what you save not buying into all this dumb-as-rocks, "smart" meter BS.1 -
Yes, we have only relatively recently been connected to the gas main - and the options were all based upon an external meter.

I don't think it's so much the principle of smart meters that troubles people - although I do have reservations - but the way consumers are being coerced to have them, by hook or by crook, by suppliers who are running scared of a belligerent Ofgem if they don't fulfil their quotas.We hear of faulty installations, broken promises regarding installation and all the rest. The entire smart-meter rollout has been dogged by mis-information, recurring technical delays, missed deadlines and financial shenanigans on an epic scale.
However, none of the above changes my desire to have them fitted asap.

I can't help feeling that even if I did have a smartie Mk 2 installed I would still want to cross check by taking manual readings rather than rely on the hi-tec getting it right - which just defeats the point of the exercise.Telegraph Sam

Avro must have signed up to DCC, as a couple of weeks ago I got an email from the mob they've employed to do smart meter fitting for them. Tried email to ask questions, no joy, so telephoned and asked "do you have a domestic 3 phase SMETS2 smart meter suitable for areas of poor mobile phone reception?" No they don't, so they can't fit a smart meter here (basically because our supply is 3 phase).

As for my antipathy towards so-called smart meters, I make no apologies; flashing lights are not an incentive since I am not five years old and a little bit challenged though I understand they may be for technophiles. Make of that what you will.0 -
I joined Avro in August after talking to one of their reps, the first thing I asked Will I get the warm home discount, she yes I get guaranteed pension credit, she said it opens in October when I emailed to make sure them rep said because I joined them after July 5thI would have claim it off BG, The said they would get notification from the government, will ring BG next week, impossible to get through by phone I was on hold for nearly an hour, Seems Avro are mainly online with their reps working from home because of CV190

sido1, if you are in receipt of the guaranteed element of pension credit, you should not have to apply for the WHD; it should be paid automatically. Since you were with BG on the cut-off date, you may receive a letter from them at some point before March which you then take to a post office with at least two proofs of ID to claim the discount in cash.
BG may pay it into your bank account if you were paying by direct debit but I have found that, unless you are still with the same supplier on the cut-off date, this is what they do; make you go to the post office and stand in line, cap in hand. If you are not in the "Core Group" (i.e. not in receipt of the guaranteed element of pension credit) and do have to apply, then you should do so at the earliest opportunity.
Since I switched at the end of June this year, before the cut-off date, I am hopeful that my supplier will actually apply the discount to my balance and spare me the inconvenience, risk and humiliation of having to do the above.0 -
