Avro Energy reviews: Give your feedback

I administered my mother's Avro account. She switched to Yorkshire Energy in August. I waited three months for Avro to put up a closing statement to no avail. I knew my mother's account was in credit to the tune of about £30 two weeks before and paid a further £64 on the day before the switch so I finally emailed them asking for a refund.
To my amazement, they then replaced the August statement with a final statement which said my mother owed £178.02 and they wanted the money to be paid immediately.
Something clearly wan't right and I replied and told them so. They hadn't bothered with a closing statement until I'd contacted them - their claim that the closing statement had been available online since October was an outright lie as I've been waiting for weeks and checking regularly.
I checked their final meter readings with those supplied subsequently to Yorkshire Energy and, guess what, they are nowhere near!
According to Avro, my mother used 8373 kwh of gas in August this year - that's more than twice the total of the seven previous months in the warmest month of the year!
I'm still awaiting to see what they say about this but I'd be very careful in my dealings with Avro. They appear to either incompetent, overcharging or just don't care.
Avro have now sent a final demand!
They blame Yorkshire Energy for an incorrect final meter reading but insist the 'balance' is paid, even though it's clearly incorrect.
To make matters worse, Yorkshire Energy have not replied to an email I sent them (they've had nearly three weeks). Should I now escalate this to Ofgem? What is so upsetting is that Avro actually owe money to my 85-year-old mother!0 -
Avro Energy - this is my 2nd year with them. I switched through MSE energy website and the 2nd year I couldn't find anyone cheaper so stayed with Avro. So far, so good - no issues at all. Like the other energy suppliers, I've got an online account and I provide the meter readings periodically. Can't complain about Avro at all so I can recommend them at present.1

Moved from Avro in August 2019, emailed them re final account in September, they still have £527, (Jan 2020) and I have had no final bill. They also took 2 payments in August and considering I was well in credit and they predict my usage, there was clearly no need for any extra payment. If you are on the side of trusting to your supplier, go elswhere.0

I've been with AVRO for nearly 2 years always been competitive & like the fact no exit charge.
BUT verging on losing that competitive pricing position with recent wholesale gas price reductions I was expecting a new lower tariff than the one I switched on to in June.
Prices now very similar to the BIG 6 even British Gas which is a surprise.1 -

Always been a fan of AVRO and been with them many years now but..my recent interaction has left me wondering.
I logged onto my account recently and although i knew it was in credit for the winter found it at £553 in credit.
Their own prediction is my yearly bill is around £1000.
Yet they still take £130 a month. I used to pay about £88 but THEY actively put it up.
I asked them to look into the account and they said they do not automatically refund credit at any level and do not monitor direct debit payment amounts, however they would refund £465 of the credit ? why that amount no idea
I challenged them over the dd increase and they then said , oh yes to be clear we only monitor "upwards" but never downwards.
All in all slightly sneaky in my opinion, time to move on i think.0 -
wazza99 If Avro is still a good deal for you why not try the advice above and see what DD amount they suggest for going on to the new tariff? The online procedure suggested by philng is fully automated.0

Thanks just have, yes it does come out cheaper £79 a month.
I suppose what im saying is im now uncomfortable with AVRO's policies.
Only actively review upwards
Do not refund credits at any level
And of course as i've just found do not move you or advise directly to customers new cheaper tariffs.
perhaps all companies do the same but seems a bit unfair.0 -

Don`t cut off your nose
I must also say this and not just for energy companies.
You must be pro active in all your affairs, banks, insurance, phone broadband, etc.
Don`t let the tail wag the dog.0
