Hotpoint banged out these dodgy machines for 11 years, they should do all they can to rectify the situation ASAP. You may be happy to wait but many others are not so forgiving.

Just a point to note btw, but I believe the fault became apparent during discovery of the acquisition which they then presented to trading standards so they could make the public aware and begin the recall proceedings.

Admittedly they probably used the findings to get a better price due to the liabilities they were accepting and they entered into the contract being aware of the liability they were facing, but I don't believe they were the company that produced them.

People have every right to complain, Hotpoint have been playing with people's lives for 11 YEARS.

Nobody has said customers don't have the right to complain but 11 years worth of selling faulty dryers is not going to be a quick fix...
In the end while it's annoying we are just talking about a tumble dryer, many people exist without as it's not a life threatening condition to do without it.
Everyone effected will eventually either get a bargain or a fix..

All true what you say but when it was Hotpoint they would have known they had a problem but they continued to make them.

Swan and proline may also be affected.

It certainly isn't going to be a quick fix so you can't blame people putting the company under pressure to remove the fire hazard from their homes.

There are a million things we can live without but if you pay for something you shouldn't have to live without it.

from what I've seen/read they appear to be doing everything they can to sort this out quickly.

You've said this, or something similar, multiple times. The fact is they have done very little sort it out quickly. In fact most of their recent efforts seem to be prompted by the increasing amount of negative publicity they've received.

At the start of the recall they would know a rough indication of how many machines have been sold over the past 5 years, how many engineers they have, and how long a repair takes. Yet they didn't start recruiting extra service engineers for months afterwards.

On top of that their communication has been absolutely dreadful. I got one email on registering, which promised an update within (I think it was) 5 weeks. It was almost double that before they sent me an update, which was just a link to a website giving me an estimated repair month - not even a potential date arranged. Because it's a website they now won't bother to email to tell me when the date slips further.

I'd go as far to say that if everyone just shut the hell up and stopped being so outraged for a second, decided if they want a repair or replacement - told hotpoint what they want, without argument, dramatised rubbish or complaint - we'd all end up getting a repair or a replacement MUCH FASTER.

Which is patently total rubbish. Unless Hotpoint are making the engineers answer the phones in their call centres.

Anyone waiting for an eng to turn up today? Was given time slot via text but has been over an hour now since slot given and no sign of anyone arriving.... Called the helpdesk and was given run around saying not due today and when I eventually got through to right people they could nto get through to eng so had to leave a VM.

here's hoping I get a know on the door soon (cannot afford to take another day off just for this).

just got a call - will be here in 5 mins :)
  • I don't know whether to take this £99 offer they are emailing with now or wait until December which seems a long way off I just feel why should I be paying for a new drier when the one I have works fine.
    Any advice ?
  • Just had an email saying that an engineer would be with me in DECEMBER! or I could buy an ugly white one for £99.
Has anyone managed to actually get any decent service our outcome over this?

Iv been offered a £299 drier for £99 but I don't know whether to take it or not they estimate December to fix mine !!!
  • :I have a six year old machine and I too have been offered either waiting until December or buying a new one for £99. Who are the lucky ones being offered a replacement TD for free? :j

Isn't a brand spanking new machine for £99 a very good offer for a six year old machine?
