Hotpoint urgent tumble dryer recall

For those that are adamant they don't want to use their dryer until the fix has been completed then buy a clothes horse..Many people manage perfectly without a dryer, I for one never had one when my 3 where babies..3 babies together and a couple of clothes horses were not a big deal. I've still got 2 now and I have 2 dryers that only occasionally get used....You make a big saving on your energy bill also.
And as an added bonus your house goes damp and mouldy, causing potential health problems for you and your children. Unless you open a window to let the moisture out, thus wasting energy.0 -

Rather dramatic, not everybody has dryers and I'm sure they are not living in mouldy damp ridden homes, those that are obviously need to take preventive measures, airing a room isn't hard. Dryers are a 1st world luxury not a necessity so if someone can't manage without one and maintain a home and energy at the same time then humanity has certainly regressed.0 -
Read MSE's Failed Delivery article.
Not quite your scenario, but the principle is the same.
As your issue at this stage appears to be nothing to do with the dryer recalls, AO should not be avoiding you.
Some more reading - MSE's Consumer Rights guide.
A short extract:
Lots of other good stuff in there too.
Thank very much for the info and link. AO is chasing it up with Hotpoint as I told them my contract is with them. Waiting for a call and will arm myself with more knowledge via your link in the meantime.
Thank you again0 -

Simply nonsense...I have been drying clothes indoors (as have countless millions) in the winter for 50 plus years in six or seven different homes without a single damp or mould issue. You lost it when you mentioned children!0 -

You make an excellent point and clearly live in the real world.
Unfortunately I've reached the conclusion that the vast majority of people on this particular thread are far too busy being inordinately outraged to actually think logically or get on with life. I'm somewhat bemused as to how some of these people manage to get through life without falling off cliffs.0 -
What annoys me is all the self-entitled moaning serial complainers who seem to do nothing to help the situation.
I'd go as far to say that if everyone just shut the hell up and stopped being so outraged for a second
If you are "annoyed" as you suggest why on earth do you keep visiting this thread to get yourself in such a state ?0 -

But that's not what you claimed. You made a claim that drying inside made a "big saving" on energy bills. You conveniently failed to mention that either you need to ventilate your house well - and in the process waste energy - or it will get damp. I didn't say that a dryer was anything other than a luxury.foxtrotoscar wrote: »Simply nonsense...I have been drying clothes indoors (as have countless millions) in the winter for 50 plus years in six or seven different homes without a single damp or mould issue. Do you ventilate your house well?
I can only apologise for pointing out the scientific research linking dampness and asthma. Still, don't let facts get in your way.0 -

Funny, I've reached the conclusion that you have no concept that other people might have different lives and different lifestyles to your own.
You repeatedly fail to understand that just because this issue doesn't cause you a problem, that doesn't mean it doesn't cause anyone else a problem.0 -

Hilarious!
I haven't said it doesn't cause me a problem? - it does cause me a problem, I have an affected machine that I have to continually supervise and am growing increasingly annoyed that I still don't have a repair date, or even any further contact from my initial registration.
The difference is, I'm not ranting and raving on here about how terrible Hotpoint are, I'm not calling them every hour of the day, I'm not demanding a brand new replacement free of charge, I'm not calling their call centre and playing merry hell with the poor souls on the end of the phone, I'm not throwing a massive hissy fit and refusing the use the dryer then claiming to be massively inconvenienced through nobody's fault but my own, I don't have some deluded scene of entitlement whereby I absolutely must be pushed up to the front of the repair queue... The list goes on.
Yes Hotpoint have handled this terribly, yes wait times are currently excessive, is the world going to end because of a safety recall to address a potential hazard on your tumble dryer? NO.
People like Poppie68 come to this thread and post reasonable suggestions/alternative options and are shot down.
I have no problem with people posting stuff on this thread in general, after all I (assume) we're all here as we are affected by the modification. What I take issue with is people acting like complete and utter babies on here and demanding xyz as they're under the misguided impression that they're a special little snowflake - so yes if this is the case then I will question them and ask further details.0 -

Only a few days back you were convinced Hotpoint were doing everything possible to sort out the problem quickly.
What if they don't contact you? Are you going to wait indefinitely, or are you going to get in touch? I suggest that you'll try to contact them. In which case, by your own argument, you are just a bad as everyone else who has tried to contact them trying to get their own machine fixed.
Perhaps the difference is that this affects many people to a greater degree than it affects you. Therefore it's entirely reasonable for them to contact Hotpoint to seek a resolution sooner than you would do so. It's equally reasonable for them to be annoyed or angry at the long delays required for a fix.
And, lets face it, if no-one phoned, if the papers didn't report the story, if it wasn't on TV- then Hotpoint would have little or no incentive to be recruiting more engineers to try and speed up the fixes. You should be thanking every person who has phoned, they are probably speeding up your own machine being fixed too.The difference is, I'm not ranting and raving on here about how terrible Hotpoint are, I'm not calling them every hour of the day, I'm not demanding a brand new replacement free of charge, I'm not calling their call centre and playing merry hell with the poor souls on the end of the phone, I'm not throwing a massive hissy fit and refusing the use the dryer then claiming to be massively inconvenienced through nobody's fault but my own, I don't have some deluded scene of entitlement whereby I absolutely must be pushed up to the front of the repair queue... Sound the straw man siren, we have a winning entry!0
