One of the main reasons that I want nice tea towels is that in our (rented) house, there are no drawers in the kitchen (seriously why?!), and the tea towels are displayed on a little rack, so they are always on view.

I think I'll leave them in my Amazon basket for a bit. Might have a nose round Dunhelm and The Range tomorrow to see how the prices compare/see if I spot something else I like.

Thanks for your thoughts guys :)

Go for it CLF - it's the small luxuries that make all the difference imho :D

My indulgent purchase of the day is a posh mattress topper. I could have got one for £8 but I splashed out on one from t k max for £30 (was worth £80 apparently), but personally I think it's well worth the extra - I will feel like I deserve it every single night and that creates a different energy to scrimping and scraping on absolutely everything. :D I'm more than happy scrimping on other things (e.g. my hand soap pump in the bathroom is filled with cheap bubble bath :shhh: and I can't remember the last time I bought any new clothes.)

Also, I've got £36 from doing surveys so it's like free
  • Can't keep off here tonight! This is the other cardi I want to make - Mum has agreed to buy me the yarn for this for my birthday in a couple of weeks!

CLF - I love how you're so trying to resist sock knitting. I feel that when you see a pic of the pair I'm currently knitting (am half way up the leg bit of the 2nd one), you'll be racing to the wool shop for sock yarn & a set of DPNs! This is one of the 'cleverest' self-patterning yarns I've ever used.

OK, I am going to have to ask to see a picture of the socks now... :p

    Good Afternoon
Candy - Massive congratulations, you come across a lot happier and more confident than you used to in the "old days"

Thank you Ziggy - I am trying to be more confident.....I am trying a couple of things - fake it til you make it, being really conscious of holding my head high (I always used to look at the floor), ignoring the negative thoughts and if I do happen to babble in the office, just go with it :oo

Also, I have decided to concentrate on the people who make an effort to be part of my life rather than those who were important

  • Hi everyone
I am shattered but checking in much earlier than I have done recently. I may yet get an early night... Busy day but really productive so I can't complain - although it is freezing out there :snow_grin My car was reading zero degrees on the way back from Mr S at half past five. House is nice and warm now and the heating is off. Me and the kids are in bed, snuggled and warm - as are the cats.

    [STRIKE]:D check bank[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]:D sort out YNAB[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:D Figure out my plans for getting a lot of stuff from Mr S for a small amount of money using a combination of coupons and double up vouchers. This could take a while.[/STRIKE] I managed, and am extremely proud of myself that I managed to get £96.75 of shopping for £30.25. I feel very :money: today. :D
    [STRIKE]:D Hoover through[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]:D clean the bathroom[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:D if the weather gets ok I MUST wash the car[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:D fill up car washer bottles[/STRIKE]
:D plan some cooking and baking to use stuff up
    [STRIKE]:D get ds to football[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]:D both kids to gymnastics[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:D nothing school related at all[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:D no chance of a day without using the heating, but don't overdo it.[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:D try not to argue with dh - may be difficult but we'll see [/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]:D no frivolous spends[/STRIKE]

I partly planned my cooking and I made a bread and butter pudding - further plans ahead for veggies but I haven't gotten round to thinking about it much yet. I have a funny looking green pumpkin type vegetable to use, but I don't even know what it is. I'm assuming it's a pumpkin.
All this talk of knitting has gotten me thinking as to whether or not I should have a look for some patterns for my mam as part of her Christmas present. I've been looking for a little bit of something for her.
  • Well annoyed - I cancelled the contents insurance for my old house (c. £9 a month and due to end in Feb). I called them to cancel and I thought they said they will be giving me £47 but they've actually charged that as a cancellation fee. How stupid of me?! Should just have kept paying £9 a month for the next 2 months!!!

Yep, I've been stung by this before 2 x months of payments at £30 per month, rang to cancel as I sold the car - cancellation fee of £59 - how can they get away with it? At least !!!! Turpin wore a mask

  • Hello there all, I'm going to join your daily threads if I may.

DFW-type things I have done today...
    1. I haven't left the house today so it was a NSD for me.
    2. Menu-planned for next week and have placed the grocery order for delivery next Friday.
    3. Checked online banking, updated spreadsheet, wrote spends down in notepad
    4. Nothing bought from Amazon (big success, this)
    5. Deliberately made a Shepherd's Pie so that I could use up some bagged veg which was past it's date.

Erh.....that is all I can think of

CLF- That crochet cardi is just totally fab. I would defo wear that, in purpley shades......though my crochet is about as advanced as your knitting, lol. I made a nice cardi/wrap thingy earlier this year - 'Delilah' by UK designer Belinda Harris-Reid. Knitted on 4 diffetent sizes of circular needles.

2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

Hi Housework*Fairy  Welcome to the thread :A

I guess we'll both know for next time :( You just know there is no point even querying it as they'll just quote back the clause in the small print. Total waste of energy.

Mmmm, I like the sound of your Shepard's Pie - I'm going to see what is in my freezer as you've put me in the mood :)
