Sat/Sun 21st/22nd November - What small DFW things will you do this weekend?

Morning Saturday Savers,
Well, it's blowing a total gale here. No snow though. There's snow on the other side of the county, but that's closer to the peak district, so often gets what they're having. Quite a productive morning & some money saving bits & pieces so here goes with those:
*Knitted several rows of sock 2 first thing while waiting for mr f to make breakfast. Will do more later.
*Made Christmas Pudding which is steaming on the hob. Used some of the leftover ingredients from my mincemeat, plenty of stuff from stores & one of the apples we were given.
*Lots of dried fruit left from pudding-making so re-filled all our tiny plastic boxes with some of it to use as snacks.
*Defrosted lentil soup for lunch. That should warm me up - it's what Grandma would have called a 'proper rib-sticker'!
*Have had to keep running outside to pick up the Christmas Tree. It's a characterful crooked one in a big pot. This will be the 5th Christmas we've brought it indoors for trimming up, so I'll be gutted if it smashes over onto the ground & breaks. Have dragged it to a more sheltered corner.
*Checked OLB to see if energy company money has arrived yet.....not that it's likely to do so at the weekend. Will look next week.
*Updated grocery budget. It was the last shop of November's budget as my system works pay-day to pay-day, which is 27th. Technically overspent by £9, but not worried about that as used £24 of Sainsbury's giftcards (Toluna earnings) in part payment, which left a surplus of £12 ear-marked for groceries, so have transferred that into the Car Fund.
*Did a few surveys. Hit cash-out total on Ipsos so requested next voucher.
*Downstairs heating off (except bathroom towel radiator). I usually try not to put it on until 5pm, If I'm sitting, I often put a hot water bottle behind my back & find that's really warming. I'm not silly about it though. If I get desperately cold, the heating will go on. We have a very cold house, so we are both quite hardy beasts. Today I've got on thick tights, leggings, chunky hand-knitted socks, cami, long-sleeved top, jumper & shawl. Yes, the Small Wool Yeti look has returned!!
*NSD, as mr f has had to work so I don't have the car & am not inclined to stand at the bus stop in this nithering wind when I know I'm going into town tomorrow.
Well, I think that's my money saving efforts for today. Am going to make my lunch now, watch a bit of TV & progress knitting this Christmas present.
Candy - Congrats on the job news! We love good news on here, don't we?! Always nice to know one or other of us has had some good news.

Dawn - Cat is also a savager of doormats, & he hasn't even got the excuse of being a kitten, as he's 4. I think he does it partly because like most late-neutered male ex-street cats, he still quite enjoys a scrap, & partly it's done for attention. ........as in 'My bowl is empty, what can I destroy to draw people's attention to this unacceptable fact?' I would dearly love new rugs in the hall, lounge & conservatory, but I'm not at all sure that I trust him & the killer spikes he keeps in his feet!!2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.

Ok sorry I have another question! I just watched a video on the basic knitting stitch and it is opposite of what I have always done?! So I always have the needle in the left hand with the knitting (when you start a row obvs) and keep the thread in my right hand but the video the knitting and thread was in the left hand. Am I doing it wrong???DF as at 30/12/16

Were you watching an American video??? I think that's what they do. I used to knit all the time but now mainly just crochet. Some things are much better knitted though - just takes longer.0 -
Well annoyed - I cancelled the contents insurance for my old house (c. £9 a month and due to end in Feb). I called them to cancel and I thought they said they will be giving me £47 but they've actually charged that as a cancellation fee. How stupid of me?! Should just have kept paying £9 a month for the next 2 months!!!0

Eurgh sucks when ins companies do that Le e! When I changed cars had to keep my old one on the drive for a couple of months as it would have cost me more to cancel and they said if I just got rid of it and didn't tell them it was an offence! Madness! Hating them on ur behalf xDF as at 30/12/16

Hi,
Had a fun morning.
Run...swim...sauna...steam room...fresh air..coffee...................pie.
Debt-Free Nillionaire Month 6:
* Lovely free ParkRun in sub-zero temperatures.
* Swam and sauna at local pool. Used bath towels that were just about ready to go in the wash rather than fresh ones.
* Homemade lasagne for dinner tonight.
Have a good day everyone.

Wow! The thread is so busy today!
Ally - thanks for the starter
Candy - congrats on the job front
DNMS - good luck with the knitting. I have to confess that I've been thinking about these socks all night (nooo must NOT start new project)
Hello to everyone! Sounds like you're all having a mse and packed weekend! The party was quite fun but I did a very sensible thing and drank very little and went to bed (relatively) early *1.30am as opposed to 3 or 4am like the rest of them!
Was up at 7, started tidying and washing up but then my early lift was leaving. Almost all of the nibbles are still intact so have been put into the Christmas party food box.
Annoyingly, I took two tea towels with me which got used for mopping stuff up and were binned! Having said that, they were old (although still my best ones) and I have been considering new ones as mine are all sub standard (too thin, too fluffy etc). Will order new ones from Amazon using voucher money.
I have a very long list. Some of which may get done, some might not, may carry on into tomorrow:- B/L/D from stores (breakfast a bubble and squeak type thing using left over veg)
- Strip bed and wash sheets, try to get it out on the line for a bit but OH didn't get up until 12.30! Annoying as it's a good drying day here. - done
- Remake bed (hate hate hate this job) - done
- Change towels, wash dirty ones - done
- Strip spare bed and wash bedding in time for party next week
- Skyped my friend in Tenerife for an hour and a half! - done
- But while on phone, made a butternut squash and feta pie for dinner tonight/tomorrow - done
- Feed the Christmas cakes - done
- Make mince pies to cook alongside the butternut squash pie (saves on oven usage) - done
- Make peanut butter flapjack bar things for post workout fuel. Cook with pie and mince pies - can't really see a recipe... am going to wing it! - done
- Find out the flylady zone this week - dust accordingly
- Keep an eye out for items to declutter/repurpose
- Fabric belt of OH's. Never see him wear it. Backed up by the fact it had collected about an inch of dust under the bed. Decided it was too cruddy for cs. Binned.
- Several tonnes of dust from under the bed
- Photo album of people who I couldn't give a monkey's about (all from last day at school. Hated school with a vengeance, don't know why I have pics of most of these people)
- One sock of OH's that was lurking under the bed. Accidentally sucked into the vacuum. Am not bothering to sift through to retrieve.
- Advent calender crafty bits and crochet
- Bring chilli plants in (didn't do this last week)
- Wash fountain and put in shed (didn't do this last week)
- Sweep up leaves outside and put in brown bin
Have a lovely day all
