DNMS- At the start of a row, I always have the needle with the knitting on it in my left hand & the empty needle in my right hand. That's how to knit, but I guess left-handed folk could possibly tackle it the other way round?

2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

CLF - I love how you're so trying to resist sock knitting. I feel that when you see a pic of the pair I'm currently knitting (am half way up the leg bit of the 2nd one), you'll be racing to the wool shop for sock yarn & a set of DPNs! This is one of the 'cleverest' self-patterning yarns I've ever used.

I know!!! But I can't currently knit! (well I sort of can knit normal garter stitch, but not at any real tension), so I'll have to re-learn first. Also must finish mountain of baby clothes (8 people I know currently pregnant... possible duff batch of Durex in the north-west?! ;):p:eek:)
Plus have already bought the yarn and pattern for a cardi for me, plus am getting yarn and pattern for another cardi for Christmas.

ooooooo but the socks are calling meeeeee!

  • Afternoon everyone :) thank you Ally for starting us off!!

Foxgloves - what is your secret?! I wish my hubby would ask me for a list of things to do!! haha

Candy - Congratulations on getting the job!!

It was snowing here in Cambridgeshire/Norfolk/Lincolnshire boarders (I do live in a random place!! haha) last night. This morning as I was driving into work there was a tree laying across the road so reported that - hoping it is gone before I leave off work at 6!

Wow all these people knitting you are amazing - seriously!! I gave it a go at the beginning of the year and was terrible :(

Not going to get much done today as working until 6 then off to mums for an early Christmas with my family :D my brother that still lives down in Southend (Essex) has come up with his girlfriend, her little girl and my two nieces (although consider them all to be my nieces). As they can't come up for Christmas, mum is cooking a yummy dinner and we're going to exchange presents. It will be nice for us all to be there because it rarely happens. Although mum is a bit worried about having 12 people in the house and how she's going to fit them all round her table that sits 6! We told her she should do dinner in rounds!! haha

So just a little list for today:
    - Dinner at mums
    - FPL
    - Lucky Phone
    - Eat healthy at work as stuff my face time tonight!
    - Check MS's
    - Survey/s

I think that is about it for today!!

    xx

  • Quick opinion poll please about the tea towels...

    I have seen these (link)

According to the reviews they are apparently very absorbent, thick and lovely. I really like the design. Much more joyful than my current thin nasty faded tea towels.

However, do you think that £15.99 is very extravagant for tea towels? I sort of feel like it is, but I really want nice terry cloth ones. Also, the payment will come from my gift card allowance.

    Help!

  • Carrie completely up to you.if it were me though I'd go to Wilkinson and then use the gift card for myself. But that's just me! Whatever brings you joy x

Evening all :) Thanks ally for the start.
    Congrats Candy for the job.
Its a very busy thread today :)

We've been out most of the day but the little bits I have done are as follows

Walked more then 11000 steps - to earn points on Bounts
Boys changed swimming lesson days (we've previously had ds1 swimming tue/thu and ds2 thu/sun but ds 1 changed to Rookie lifesaving course which is only once a week and ds2's 1-1 lessons have brought him on loads and he's now good enough to be in that instructors normal class on a Saturday morning so both boys swum this morning, so it frees up two evenings ( & fuel costs)
We went into town as we needed to pick up ds2's glasses, so we parked out of town and walked in to avoid paying for a carpark :) Whilst in town popped into whsmiths to get a free bag of lollies using o2 priority, will be using these in the ds's xmas box :)
Had a free lunch at my dads :)
Called at c0op on the way back, picked up some ys greek yogurts reduced from 50p to 13p for my dad, 2 ys chickens and a ys iceberg lettuce :)
Ds1 wanted to sleep over at grandma's so home now with dh & ds2, cwtched up under blankets with a hot water bottle watching Horrible Histories,
Food tonight is ys pizza for ds2, we are having a use up of whatever is in the fridge on top of jacket potatoes!
Entertainment will be catchup tv & possibly Pitch Perfect 2 :)

Think that's it for now :) Have a lovely evening all.

CLF- They look bright & cheery so it's up to you if you want them enough to spend £16. My maximum on a pack of 3 tea towels would be £8 absolute tops, but we're all diffetent in what we will pay. I too would go to Wilko's. Or Boyes.

Morning Ally & all who follow

Hugs to those who need them :grouphug:

I got the job, so from mid January I will be a finance analyst working with the Russians !!!! Eeek, scared, excited, apprehensive etc. They will give me a payrise (unexpected) and will support me for studying CIMA. It'll be made final once I get the letter through the post and then it'll be announced to both teams. They area lovely bunch so I don't know why I feel nervous.

Now that's over, I will have to catch up on yesterday's gossip - I didn't stop at all to catch up with the forum - I missed my bus to Hubby's workplace which meant I had to get 2x trains and pay extra for the privilege.

    Anyhow today I have/will:
    • meals from stores - forgot that I said to my friend that we would have lunch.....but she paid !!
    • checked online banking - done
    • meeting a friend in Winchester who I've not seen for about a year, so I'll need to think of some gossip - I had such a good day.....popped into a fabric shop and bought a couple of things (well, I didn't buy lunch)
    • I'll get a train to meet her and use my national railcard to get discounted tickets - saved £3.10
    • i will try to resist going into any fabric shop or cath kidston store. - umm, this didn't happen, but I did talk myself out of buying a cath kidston laptop bag (it was on sale)
    • if i do pop into cath kidston i will see of they have a laptop bag (will buy it in the boxing day sales) - see above
    • will be charging my phone through the pc and tv when they are on - done
    • staying in tonight and watching things on the sky box - in progress
    • need to pot any change - done
    • if i get time today, i need to go through the great wall of fabric to see what i have - not done
    • going to try to walk 7,000 footsteps to get bounts points - up to 6,100 steps

Think that is enough to be getting on with, take care everyone xx

    Candy xx

I have had such a good day (even if it was freezing cold) - it was lovely to see my friend and meet her son (so cute)

I meant to say that yesterday I managed to bag a guided tour around Eton college....'something for the new year :j
