Got our letter 2 days ago, said it will be paid in about 3 weeks time.
  • Last year mine arrived on the 27th Nov. This year it will be a bit more. £150 for me. Trouble is, there are so many charities in need of help and funds. Scotty's Little Soldiers, or one of the wildlife charities? Decisions, decisions....

I've got a coal fired stove running 6 radiators and we use it for a big delivery of coal :)
  • Well done. I think that's just the kind of thing it was originally meant for.

We pay for fuel by direct debit monthly, evened out over the year. Winter, summer, same monthly payment. But when I was a child at home, yes, they would buy extra coal in the autumn when it was a bit cheaper.

  • I'm also putting extra into savings. It seems to be coming closer, the day when DH's leg can no longer be treated with antibiotics - repeated flare-ups of the infection which nearly killed him in 2008, every few weeks this year. He's been trying hard to avoid above-knee amputation, but....

Therefore, we shall definitely need to convert the bathroom to a wet-room and money will be needed.

Like to see it increased to £300 but become taxable.

Am all for it, Farway, but cold is only one killer of OAP's. How do they work it out ? What about those dying from the heat, like those poor souls in Spain, wherever.
