Had a big scare last week - an email turned up from my wonderful downstairs neighbour saying "We don't want to worry you, but the estate agent took someone up into your flat yesterday - is the sale still on?" Called the agent and found out that the buyer is so keen to get cracking that she asked if her electrician could go in to check out the wiring so he could get started the day after completion. So, fingers crossed, we are still good to go and hopefully it'll be very, very soon!
The writing group I belong to is having a 'subs race' in September, where we all go through our old short stories and send them out to new markets. I hadn't been able to get cracking because I've had family staying since 1st September, but I've knuckled down this afternoon and spruced up/sent out 2 stories to 4 markets. Another 20-odd to go through, so fingers crossed one or two will find a new home somewhere.

Hooray - highest-rate credit card is now paid off in full and once I'm certain there aren't any last little bits of interest hanging around to be paid off, I'll write to them and close it.
I'm slightly worried that two very large cheques I've written in the past fortnight (both around £1,000, one to a supplier and one to my divorce solicitors) haven't been cashed yet. Will chase both of those up today, although at the moment they're making my bank accounts look £2,000 healthier than they actually should be (sig figures account for the cheques!).
EDIT: Would you believe it - I clicked Post and my email promptly pinged with a message from my solicitor saying 'Thanks for the cheque'!
I'm crossing everything that the flat sale will go through this week or next, but just in case it doesn't, the next highest rate is the overdraft, so that's the next one in the line of fire.
Had my first story rejection a couple of days ago, but I have another 7 out there still and more to go, so there's still hope!

Fingers crossed for you here also. We have just been through the want to buy 'this' so need to sell 'that' process and exchanged on the sale of OH's flat this week.
I've sold once before and that was a nailbiter because I had my eye on a property. I swore I would not do that again. But, of course, 'plans - mice - men' ye knowNo longer half of Optimisticpair

The estate agent rang this afternoon. The buyer wants another £4k off the price for rewiring the kitchen and bathroom, new kitchen units, new carpets and the falling market. I did point out that she knew about the kitchen units and carpets when she first viewed the place, but the agent says that the market in Croydon is so utterly dire at the moment that I don't really have a choice if I want to keep the sale going. I've asked her to find out where the buyer is in the legal process - I'm guessing that her solicitors have told her we're ready to exchange and this is her final negotiation. I hope so anyway.

Oh Cazmanian Minx, I really hope this is the final hurdle for you. How do you feel about it, are you able to cope financially with this or do you just feel backed into a corner?
