Optimisticpair - I have everything crossed for you, hope your sale goes through OK.

Kaz - thank you for the comments about the photos. I had a comment yesterday asking if one can be used in a book on renewable energy sources, so I've said yes. No payment, unfortunately, but I will get a photographer's credit next to it.

After talking it over with OH, we're going to keep the flat on the market but if it continues to not sell, we're going to try and save enough to buy my ex out. In the meantime, our lovely downstairs neighbours, who are also the building's freeholders, have a couple of friends who need somewhere cheap to stay for a bit while they save up to go travelling - which might be an ideal temporary solution. Watch this space...

That's fantastic news! We get such a buzz from seeing our pics in a weekly equine magazine. It must be way more of a thrill though to see your photo in a proper, permanant book! Well done you!

It's going up - £70k bloke raised his offer to £85k and another potential buyer has come in at £90k. I've turned both down and there are several viewings lined up for Saturday.

    Hi Caz,:hello:

Sorry you lost your buyer:rolleyes:. What a funny old business - makes you wonder where the money came from:confused::whistle:

    Good luck with your viewings.

If I were to type what I'm thinking at the moment, then this post would be asterisks and nothing else, so here's the cleaned-up version :D

On Thursday I had the bright idea of asking my solicitor to get in touch with my ex's solicitor and find out the minimum amount he'd agree to sell the flat for, thus saving the cost of a new letter every time I got an offer I thought was acceptable. A fax and letter duly went off.

On Monday the estate agent rang and said that every single viewer at the weekend said that it needed too much doing to it for them to consider offering on it, however the lady who'd offered £90k had upped it to £100k. They advised dropping the price to £124,995 and expecting to maybe get £110k if I was lucky. They needed an answer on the £100k offer by Wednesday afternoon.

So I asked my solicitor to fax my ex's solicitor again (having had no response to the one on Thursday) and let them know about the £100k offer, because I was happy to accept it.

Today the answer came back - the minimum amount he will agree to sell at is £120,000. I rang the estate agent, who basically said 'Absolutely no chance', so it looks like I'm stuck paying the mortgage until the market recovers :wall::wall::wall: I've emailed my solicitor to make sure that I can take 50% of the mortgage payments between now and the sale date back out of the proceeds when it eventually does sell, since it would be totally and utterly unjust otherwise.

    Hi Caz,

Can't you get the estate agent to send him a letter or something? Otherwise the flat will just keep falling in value and you (maybe) won't even get £110K. During the early 90's recession my hubby was trying to sell his father's house after he died. His sisters kept wanting to go with the highest (unrealistic) value and it took two years for them to sell the house. Indeed, they sold for far less than they would have done if they had been realistic from the start....there has got to be a way of getting through to him. Can he really do this?:mad:

Don't move, don't breathe, don't speak - but the estate agent has just rung. She went back to the £100k lady yesterday, explained the situation and asked for a best and final offer. £100k lady has rung back this morning with £118k and I've accepted it - I'll pay my ex 43.whatever% of the remaining £2k out of my share. Not ideal, but I'm not losing a buyer with a £30k deposit who's willing to complete in 28 days for the sake of just under £880!

I just hope, hope, hope, HOPE that this one goes through, because I'm now further in debt than ever - OH and I decided to scrape the bottom of our credit cards and overdraft to buy his replacement car rather than sign up to 5 years on their rather dodgy finance deal (I got suspicious when they wouldn't tell us the APR and said they didn't have reference numbers for customers, they just went by first names!) and my solicitor has emailed me a bill for £921 (and that's after my £800+ on account has been taken off it ) plus a request for funds on account so she can carry on dealing with the case.

Going to update my signature with the new and awful truth now, I have a horrible feeling it's going to be over the amount it was when I first started panicking about it. At least OH is going to be paying me back at £1,000 a month for the car money, which will help a lot.
