  • The 401st post in this thread, and I'm happy (actually, make that totally ecstatic!) to report that I exchanged this afternoon with completion set for 21st October!

    Am off out with OH this evening to have a few of these!

    :beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:

    So I suppose that technically means that come the 21st I'll have completed my MFi3 challenge, though it doesn't feel like it, now I've got a joint mortgage 5 times as big with the other half!

    Caz, really great news that you have achieved escape velocity at last!

    You should be looking at the above differently, you only have 2 1/2X more than before, your OH has the balance ;)

    I hope you can equally apply your joint finances to minimise the cost to you both in the new journey to ownership.

    What interim targets do you now have?

    Actually he has a bit more than 2 1/2X, I paid the deposit ;) So he's paying a bigger proportion of the mortgage.

    OH would love to get this paid off in 5 years and retire. I think that's a bit optimistic - it would be 10 years after that before his naval pension kicked in - but it's something to aim for and it's not completely impossible. At the moment we're paying £24.23 a day in interest. Every £60 we overpay or offset reduces that by 1p, which is a bit more of a manageable chunk than saying every £6k reduces it by £1!

    I don't know what the final bill for the conveyancing is yet, but after paying off the mortgage, my Mum (the family loan in my sig), the estate agent and my ex-husband, I'll be left with just under £30k. Take off another £10k for the overdraft and credit cards and I'll have £20k to offset, which will help a lot. OH owes me £5k, which he's paying back in chunks over the next year, and we've both agreed to chuck any spare cash we have into our respective offset accounts, so it should rise fairly steadily. The bead business is running pretty well, despite the credit crunch, so I can stash any surplus working capital and my tax bill money in there as well.

  • AT LAST!

    Well done and congratulations - not least for maintaining grace under fire! It can't have been easy, but persistence and pragmatism have won the day.

    Hope when the financial dust settles that you can enjoy your less complicated fiscal and financial arrangements.

    Oh, and I think you deserve a gizmo fix for all your efforts!!
