Excellent news it must be such a relief. Looks like your plans are sound for the new challenge and nice to see you treat yourself too!
    Enjoy.
  • Right, new sig time :D

All my debts are paid off, the completion statement has arrived and been forwarded to my solicitor so she can check my calculation of what I have to pay the ex, the balance has been transferred into my offset account and I've opened a ShareBuilder account which I'm going to dribble £150 a month into.

Quite a productive morning and I'm looking forward to blitzing this new mortgage - I've got new challenge-itis again! :j:j:j:j

If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

That's great Caz, you've been in limbo for so long it must feel great to be able to focus again. Let's all fight the good fight together
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)

  • Thank you Bank of England MPC :j:j:j:j:j:j:j

And thank you Intelligent Finance for a 25-year base rate tracker mortgage :T:T:T:T:T:T:T

We've got it set up so that if there's a base rate cut our payments remain at the same level, so by doing absolutely nothing, we're going to be overpaying by about £300 a month :D

Very good news for the mortgage sector for those on BOE Base Rate trackers and presumably those on Bank Base Rate versions. Our £21.3k remaining is on NatWest offset rate which I note they were very late in reducing following the previous cut. I doubt they'll cut rapidly especially as RBS report their first loss in 300 years... just another incetive to clear it even faster!

    That's a good signature - I might change mine...*thinks*

    Good Luck
  • I've had a productive couple of days :D

Firstly, I've finally got round to setting up a FinancialBliss spreadsheet (thank you FB - couldn't have done it without your instructions!), tweaked it to take account of the offset amount and had a happy time playing around with various scenarios. For example, the £86 I've just put in there, which is my savings for tax on this week's income, knocks £130 off the total interest paid.

Secondly, I've bought my first share, £150-worth of BP, and I'm up £1.74 already :p Now got to think about what my second one will be. I'm torn between Marks & Spencer, who I think will be in the doldrums for a couple of years but will come out OK at the other side, or a more speculative punt into a company called International Power plc, who wholly own the company that's just secured the grid connection to build a 10-megawatt tidal farm up here in the Pentland Firth. I need to do some more research into that one, but they've already set up an office in Thurso and are planning to have it operational by 2011. I do like the idea of investing in something that's going to bring work locally, but in the interests of diversification, it might be better to step away from energy until I have a few other sectors covered.

And thirdly, I've got some more transcription work on the way, which hopefully will pay for Christmas! (Which reminds me, I have two outstanding invoices to chase up...)
