Great to see your efforts are now resulting in cold, hard cash too. Well done.0 -
Happy New Year everyone!
January's going to be a bit of a disaster area for my sig. I've got to pay my tax bill in a couple of weeks - £3,500, which has been sitting in the offset - and I finally treated myself to that new camera, though I've bought a very slightly used one off eBay for £721 rather than paying £850 in Jessops
However, as long as interest rates stay roughly where they are we'll pay off nearly £4,000 of the mortgage this year without making any additional overpayments and I have high hopes for my business this year, so watch this space...

For some reason IF didn't update my online banking yesterday with the interest payment so I've had to wait until today to update my sig. Nice to see the 127 of the interest-bearing amount turn to 126, but it's going to leap up once I pay the tax bill in a week or so! They've also recalculated the payment to take into account the last interest rate cut (tracker mortgage) and we now only have to pay £375 a month, though we're sticking to our original £737 which will help the paid off bit rise slightly quicker. If I've calculated the offset right, then next month's payment should take the paid off number into 4 figures for the first time :j
New camera arrived last night (hooray!) but I have tonsillitis and it's raining, so I can't go out and play with it today

Still ill, which is getting very boring now
Have joined Financial Bliss's new MFi3 challenge, starting at the end of the year, and my target will be to get the interest-bearing amount down by £30k. Thank goodness the challenge ends in a December - all my tax bill money will be in the offset
Anyway, I just wanted to post to say that I've taken the plunge and have contacted a supplier in Hong Kong with a view to placing my first import order. I've had a lot of help from a fellow beadseller on eBay (aren't people nice?) about the logistics of getting stock from the Far East to the UK by sea, so just waiting to hear back from this company now about their terms of business, minimum order levels and so on. I think it's going to be at least US$5,000  but since the offset account is earning very little in the way of interest now, I thought it might be a good return to invest some of that money in me. Everything I'm planning to order is something that already sells well for me (I'm currently buying it through a UK wholesaler and their supply can be patchy) and it'll be great to have control over stock flow, rather than getting down to my last 100 of something, ordering more and finding it's not going to be available for 8 weeks.
This is all part of the Big Plan hatched over Christmas for Mr Minx to eventually be able to stop work and bag up headpins for a living (the strange man says he'd prefer that to the very stressful job he has at the moment), so watch this space...
