I hope your health improves soon, but good to see you are making the most of the time "imposed" upon you to be constructive. Best wishes on those developments, and do stick to credit card purchase route for protection in case they default.
I'm sure downshifting will be great for your OH although bagging up items may be a little too much like running in neutral!0 -
Ouch, ouch, ouch, I paid my tax bill :eek::eek::eek::eek: Particularly painful this time round, because they wanted the tax for 07/08 AND a payment on account for 08/09, £3,700 altogether.
Still that's what the savings account is for and I'm still religiously transferring the correct proportion of my weekly takings into it every Friday, so the money will be there in July when they ask for the second payment for 08/09. Except this morning I woke up convinced it was Friday and made the transfer a day early :rotfl:
Nearly ready to place my overseas order, just got to track down a decent freight forwarder as none of the ones I've emailed with a request for an estimate have got back to me. I think I shall have to overcome my dislike of the thing and use the phone. Typical that the pound has just dropped even further against the dollar...
Mind you, I think I'm getting tougher - last Friday I rang up the company that owed me money from last October and politely asked the person who commissioned me if they could chase up the cheque. He was horrified to find out I hadn't been paid - partly because he says he's going to need my services again before too long! - marched straight down to the accounts department to prod buttock and the cheque turned up yesterday

Well done for chasing them up!Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

Hooray, hooray, hooray, two copies of Ireland's Own magazine dropped through the letterbox this afternoon and one of them had one of my short stories in it :j:j:j Now I have to chase up the editor to find out how much he needs me to invoice him for (this is standard for this magazine; the first you know that you're going to be published in it is when the finished product drops through the door!).
I've tried another freight forwarder and there's been a deafening silence in return. I'm starting to consider handling it myself now - how hard can it be...? I have an acquaintance who does it and has said feel free to ask for any help. I shall investigate further.
I'm snowed under with transcription at the moment. I'd just got the outstanding queue down to 171 minutes and another CD turned up. I haven't dared upload it yet, but the good news is that I'm owed £778 for work currently in hand or completed. One of the projects isn't due to finish until the end of next month, but I should be able to invoice the other two fairly soon I hope.

It was the one with all the bad viola player jokes in itAnd, even better, the cheque's arrived already
Today's good news is that I have a freight forwarder lined up. All I have to do now is transfer the dosh from the offset account to my business account, ready to pay the supplier (and that's going to hurt!!) and place my order. I've done the maths over several times and this does make financial sense, but it's a big step up in terms of trading volume and I'm a bit nervous. Still, faint heart never won fair lady as they say - or mortgage-free house in this case!
The transcription queue is now up to 235 minutes outstanding and £850  This is a big problem in that I should be good and stick it in the offset, but it was camera club last night and I consulted some of the really experienced photographers about why I'm getting such disappointing results from my lovely new camera. All of them immediately told me that you can't use 6-12 year old kit lenses on a camera like the 50D because it will magnify every tiny flaw in them. So despite saying that the camera was enough money spent and I was going to wait to get new lenses, I think that £850 is going to go on a second hand 100-400mm L or 300mm L lens. And then I'd really better get out there and try to shoot some pictures I can sell!

Doh, meant to come back & post. I guessed that one, honest! I told OH & he was saying 'what about this one' etc but I kept saying 'no, that's not her style' to which he rolled his eyes (I think commenting on how well we all think we know each other)
